Via One Mile at a Time, Marriott is offering a 20% bonus when you transfer your Marriott points to American Airlines through November 14, 2016.  The bonus is valid on regular airline transfers and Marriott’s Hotel + Air packages, which can be a fantastic deal.

And, you can even come out ahead by transferring your Starwood points to Marriott!

Through November 14, 2016, you’ll get 20% more miles when you transfer Marriott points to American Airlines.  The bonus is valid on Marriott’s regular airline transfers.  And on Hotel + Air packages, which I’ve written about.

If you have lots of Marriott points, this is a quick way to get more American Airlines miles, especially if you have an award flight in mind.  Marriott says the transfer can take up to 7 business days.  But if you like to collect American Airlines miles, it can be a good deal.

Here are all the ways to earn American Airlines miles.  And don’t forget there’s another offer to earn a bonus when you purchase American Airlines miles through October 31, 2016.

The 20% bonus also works with Marriott’s Hotel + Air packages.  For 270,000 Marriott points, for example, you could earn 144,000 American Airlines miles plus 7 nights at a Marriott Category 1 to 5 hotel.

The miles alone are enough for a round-trip Business Class flight to Europe, South America, or Asia.  And there are over 600 Marriott Category 5 hotels to choose from!

You earn a 5,000 mile bonus when you transfer 20,000 Starwood points to airlines with a 1:1 transfer ratio, including American Airlines.  But because of the Marriott-Starwood merger, you can get 3 Marriott points for each Starwood point you transfer (in increments of 1,000).

But you can come out ahead with Marriott’s Hotel + Air packages.  For example, if you transfer 90,000 Starwood points to American Airlines, you’d end up with 110,000 American Airlines miles.

But, if you transfer 90,000 Starwood points to Marriott, you’ll have enough for a Hotel + Air package that will get you 144,000 American Airlines miles PLUS 7 nights at a Marriott Category 1 through 5 hotel with this bonus promotion.  That’s a fantastic deal!

It’s also worth it if you don’t want to transfer 20,000 or more Starwood points.  Instead, you could transfer 10,000 Starwood points to 30,000 Marriott points.  And then take advantage of this promotion to receive 12,000 American Airlines miles.

In this case, you still get 20% more miles without using too many of your valuable Starwood points.  This can be extremely helpful if you’re close to an award flight!

Bottom Line

Get 20% more miles when you transfer Marriott points to American Airlines through November 14, 2016.  The deal works on straight points transfers and Hotel + Air Packages.

This can be an excellent deal with Marriott’s Hotel + Air packages because you get more miles AND a 7-night stay at Marriott Category 1 through 5 hotel.  With the 20% bonus considered, you get more American Airlines this way than if you transferred Starwood points directly to American Airlines.

This can also be worthwhile if you only want to transfer a small amount of Marriott or Starwood points.  Because either way, you’ll still get 20% more miles.
