During a recent visit to New York with my mom and sister, I saw “Fiddler on the Roof” on Broadway. I bought my tickets through TodayTix, an easy-to-use app that lets you browse and buy tickets to theater shows.

Once you download it, you can start browsing for tickets and showtimes. You can only buy tickets up to a week in advance. So the app is most useful for short-term plans, like when you’re already in a city where you can purchase tickets, including:

How Does It Work?
It’s very easy to get started! After you download the app appropriate for your device, select the city or region you’re in. Then scroll through the list of shows.
You’ll notice a small label next to each show:
- Tix + Info means tickets are available for immediate purchase
- Tix + Lottery means you can enter a lottery for discounted tickets, or purchase tickets immediately
- Tix + Rush gives you access to Rush tickets (which are heavily discounted) and regular tickets
- Alert + Info means tickets are sold out, but you can sign-up for an alert if more become available
I wanted to see “Fiddler on the Roof,” so I checked how much 2 tickets would cost.
Two tickets in the Orchestra section cost $214 for the date I selected. After I found the rows in the section I wanted, I pressed “Checkout.”
Note: The price you see includes all fees. This is important because most other sites tack on fees which results in a much higher price!
Then, I added my contact information and the card I wanted to use. When you are ready to book, simply “Swipe to Confirm.”
And that’s it!
When you get ready to attend your show, arrive at the theater 30 minutes early and look for the TodayTix Concierge to meet you outside and get your tickets.

Why TodayTix?
If a show you want to attend has tickets available via TodayTix, you can get substantial discounts, from 25% to nearly 50% less than buying directly from the theater.
For example, I found 2 tickets to Les Miserables on the theater’s ticket website for ~$240. But I was able to find similar seats for the same performance on TodayTix for only $154, including all fees. That’s a huge savings!

I also like how TodayTix doesn’t add surprise fees at the end of the transaction. They are up-front about their prices before you check-out.
How Does It Compare?
You can also purchase discount Broadway tickets in New York directly without promotion codes at a TKTS booth location. But that requires you to buy tickets in-person, so you’ll have to wait in long lines. And, tickets may not be available when you get to the front of the line.
I found all the other online options very confusing and adding on nonsense fees which made the total prices much more!
I also like how many cities are covered with TodayTix. You can certainly shop for tickets when you visit New York, but they also service many other places with theater culture.
Folks with Starwood points can redeem them for theater tickets and cultural events. But you won’t have nearly as large a selection as what’s on the TodayTix app.
This was my first time using it, and I liked that it was an easy and straightforward!

Bottom Line
I recently tried TodayTix to buy theater tickets while I was in New York. And I wanted to share my experience with y’all!
I was impressed by how easy and fast it was to book a show through their app (available for iOS, Android, and Amazon devices). You can find nice discounts. And the booking process is simple.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is you can only purchase tickets a few weeks in advance. So it’s not ideal for long-term plans.
That said, if you find yourself in a TodayTix city, it’s a fun way to add an activity to your trip. I like how transparent the pricing is, especially compared when booking through other sites.
