Via Frequent Miler, the Citi ThankYou® Premier card’s 50,000 ThankYou point bonus is back from the dead!

You can redeem Citi ThankYou points through the Citi travel center for 1.25 cents each in travel.  So this bonus is worth at least $625 toward your next trip!  Plus, Citi ThankYou points have steadily become more useful, as they continue to add great transfer partners.

But in order to qualify for this offer, you must NOT have opened or closed any Citi card from the same family of cards within the past 24 months. 🙁

I’ll explain.  And tell you what to expect from this improved offer!

Citi ThankYou Premier 50,000 Point Bonus

Link:   Citi ThankYou Premier

You can now earn 50,000 Citi ThankYou points when you sign-up for the Citi ThankYou Premier card and spend $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account.

Most recently, the sign-up bonus was only 30,000 Citi ThankYou points.

Along with the welcome bonus, you’ll get these perks:

  • 3 Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on travel (airfare, gas stations, taxis, tolls, etc.)
  • 2 Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on dining and entertainment (amusement parks, sporting events, movies)
  • 1 Citi ThankYou point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • NO foreign transaction fees

The card’s $95 annual fee is waived the first year.

Is It A Good Deal?

With the Citi ThankYou Premier, Citi ThankYou points are worth 1.25 cents when you book travel through the Citi travel center.  So with this bonus, you’d earn $625 in airfare, hotels, rental cars, or cruises!

But you can get even more value by transferring your Citi ThankYou points to a partner airline and using them to book award flights!  For example, you could get to Hawaii by be transferring your Citi ThankYou points to Virgin Atlantic to fly on Hawaiian Airlines.  Or transfer them to Singapore Airlines to fly on United Airlines.

You could also save on Star Alliance partner award flights to Hong Kong by transferring your ThankYou points to Avianca!

You Could Be Cruising in Style With All Those Citi ThankYou Points You’ll be Collecting!

In the past, we’ve seen a higher bonus with the Citi Prestige, which also earns Citi ThankYou points.  But there’s no guarantee that bonus will come back.  And the Citi Prestige does have a much higher annual fee (though for lots of folks, the card’s perks more than make up for it!).  So make sure this is the right deal for you.

Just remember, if you’ve opened or closed a card under the same family of cards as the Citi ThankYou Premier within 24 months (like the Citi ThankYou Preferred or Citi Prestige), you won’t qualify for this sign-up bonus.

Bottom Line

There’s a new offer to earn 50,000 Citi ThankYou points with the Citi ThankYou Premier card after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

Previously, this card’s sign-up bonus was only 30,000 Citi ThankYou points.  So this is a much better deal!  But it’s still not the best deal we’ve ever seen on a Citi card that earns ThankYou points!

How sensitive is Citi for folks with lots of hard pulls? I know that the AA cards are easy to get, but how about the Premier?

Million Mile Secrets

As far as I know, Citi doesn’t have a set rule on the number of hard pulls you can have and still be approved. But if you have a lot of hard pulls, you could be denied for that. Also, remember that you can be approved for 1 card every ~8 days and 2 every ~65 days with Citi.

I would love to get this card b/c of the awesome spend bonuses but without a direct transfer to a major US airline, I can’t justify it. AA would be the logical choice, but who knows if this would ever happen.

Million Mile Secrets

That’s true, but you can transfer to airlines that partner with US carriers. For example, you can book United Airlines awards with Avianca miles.

These Thank You Points can be combined with Thank You Points earned from having Citibank bank accounts correct?

Yes, but points earned from banking cannot be transferred.
