Wyndham has announced its acquisition of the La Quinta hotel chain!

This will make Wyndham the largest hotel chain in the world, with 9,000+ locations!  And now, folks will have more opportunities in the US, Canada, and Mexico to earn and redeem Wyndham points!

I always appreciate more ways to earn and redeem miles & points.  So this deal is exciting!

Wyndham Acquires La Quinta
You Should Soon Be Able to Earn Wyndham Points at La Quinta Hotels, Like the La Quinta Inn & Suites Orlando Universal

Here is what we know so far.

Wyndham to Acquire La Quinta

Link:  All Wyndham Hotels Cost Only 15,000 Wyndham Points a Night

Wyndham is buying La Quinta hotels for 1.95 billion dollars, and will now move past Marriott as the world’s largest hotel chain.

We don’t know what the merger will look like yet.  La Quinta has its own loyalty program, and it’s possible both loyalty programs will exist at the same time for a while (like the Marriott-Starwood merger).  Hopefully, there will be some hidden benefits to the merger, but everything is speculation at this point.

Wyndham has the most straightforward hotel rewards program.  Award nights at all hotels only cost 15,000 Wyndham points!  And La Quinta has hotels in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Honduras.  So folks traveling in North America should have a lot more opportunities to earn and use Wyndham points in the near future!

La Quinta isn’t known for 5-star quality.  But this could make it easier for folks to earn Wyndham points, and redeem them at expensive Wyndham hotels, like TRYP by Wyndham Times Square South.

Wyndham Acquires La Quinta
Depending on When You Stay, TRYP by Wyndham Times Square South Can Easily Cost $300+ per Night!

Bottom Line

Wyndham has announced it is acquiring La Quinta hotels.  This means Wyndham will have more hotels than any other hotel chain in the world, with 9,000 locations!

This is good news for folks who collect Wyndham points, because you’ll have a lot more options for earning and redeeming Wyndham points in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Honduras.  And it’s easy to know how much your Wyndham points are worth, because all hotels only cost 15,000 Wyndham points a night!

"I'm so excited. I only need four more stays to accrue enough points for a free night at the Cleveland La Quinta!" Said Nobody. Ever.

Maybe so but I wouldn't sign up for a Choice program either until I went to Norway, a very expensive place to visit, and found that the chain you can actually find there is CHOICE hotels. Not Hilton, not Marriott, not Hyatt but CHOICE. So, if you are planning a trip, it is good to check out what hotel chains are actually located there first. Who knows? It could be Wyndham or La Quinta!

Wyndham Rewards is great. Yes, many hotels are more modest and may not be the best use of points, but the ability to stay at higher end hotels for only 15,000 points, or only 3,000 points plus cash, provides great value.

Million Mile Secrets

Wyndham definitely can be a good deal with higher end hotels. And thanks for pointing out the cash & points option too!
