The 60,000 point offers on the Chase Ink end in a few days, but Chase has just increased the sign-up bonus on the Chase Freedom card!

The sign-up bonus for the Chase Freedom card has increased to 20,000 points or $200 cash back.  Normally, the bonus is 10,000 points or $100 cash back.  You’ll get the bonus after spending $500 in the 1st 3 months.  So this is a good deal!

You also get 2,500 extra points for adding an authorized user who makes a purchase in the first three months.

Chase has increased the sign-up bonus to 20,000 points before, most recently last November for a limited time.  But this is the best offer for this card I’ve seen this year!

Why I Like the Chase Freedom

The Chase Freedom is 1 of my favorite cards.  It’s a good card to keep for a long time (and possibly improve your credit score) because it has no annual fee.

Chase markets the Freedom as a cash back card but you can transfer the Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earn with it to certain airlines and hotels IF you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold, or Chase Ink Plus.

And every quarter, there are different bonus categories in which you can earn 5 points per $1 you spend to a maximum of $1,500 per quarter.  So you can earn an additional 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points per year ($300 cash back) by spending the maximum in bonus categories each quarter.

For this quarter (until June 30 2014), the bonus spending categories are restaurants and Lowe’s home improvement stores.

Some folks like to get cash back with their Chase Freedom points, but I prefer transferring them to airlines and hotels by transferring them 1st to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold, or Chase Ink Plus card.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to transfer Ultimate Rewards points from the Chase Freedom to airlines and hotels!  You can’t move points directly from the Chase Freedom to airlines and hotels – you can only do this if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold, or Chase Ink Plus.

And you have lots of hotel and airline transfer partners to choose from, including Chase Ultimate Rewards newest transfer partner, Singapore Airlines.

Bottom Line

Chase has increased the sign-up bonus on the Chase Freedom card to 20,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $500 in the 1st 3 months.  Usually, the sign-up bonus is 10,000 points, so this is a very good deal!

The Chase website says this is a limited-time offer.  I’m not exactly sure how long it will last.

I signed up for the Chase Freedom in October when it was the 10,000 point bonus and a few weeks later they changed it to the 20,000 point bonus. I was really bummed, but then I found this website and sent an SM to customer service asking them if I could get bumped up to the 20,000. Within 30 minutes they responded and instantly added the extra 10,000 points to my account. So happy I took your guy's advice! : )

Hello --

My husband and I both have the Chase Freedom; we received our card several weeks ago and applied using your link. My question -- do we have to register for Ultimate Rewards or are our cards automatically enrolled? When should we expect to see rewards in our account? Thanks -- PS. I have recommended your site to many -- I love it! Thanks again!

Hi, I applied and was approved for this card in mid-June when the $200 bonus after spending $500 in purchases promotion was still going on. Now it appears that the limited-time offer has passed and it is back to $100 after spending $500. Since I've only had this card for less than a month, I have not yet spent $500 but now that the $200 promo is over, am I still guaranteed the $200 once I do reach $500 in spending? I can't seem to find it written in fine print anywhere so I'm wondering if Chase will honor it?

@Jessica - You should get the bonus applicable when you were approved for the card. You can always call to confirm the offer linked to your account.

Quick question, I signed up for the Chase Saphire Preferred and was approved about a 2 weeks ago. Can I sign up for a Chase Freedom card and if so, is there a grace period I need to wait in order to fill out an application? Thanks for help and you website is invaluable.

Am I assuming correctly that if I get the chase freedom card bonus, that I could at a later stage also get the bonus for chase sapphire and ink?
