Today is the last day to activate the 3rd quarter bonus on the Chase Freedom card. Until September 30, 2014, you’ll earn 5X points or 5% cash back when you use your card at gas stations and Kohl’s department stores.
If you haven’t activated yet, you can still earn the bonus for all of your gas station and Kohl’s purchases from July 1, 2014, onward. But you have to activate the bonus by today. It just takes a minute.
What Are Chase Freedom Category Bonuses?
You can earn 5 points per $1 you spend, or 5% cash back, on categories that change every 3 months.
For July, August, and September 2014, the Chase Freedom bonus categories are gas stations and Kohl’s. You’ll earn the bonus on spending in these categories, up to $1,500 per quarter.
You must have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, (no longer offered) Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus, to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to hotels and airlines.
Activating the quarterly bonus is retroactive so you will earn 5% (up to $1,500 or 7,500 Ultimate Rewards points) for all gas station and Kohl’s purchases made in July, August, and September.
Remember, gas stations and Kohl’s sell gift cards to other merchants so it’s easy to maximize the bonus by buying gift cards to restaurants and stores you’ll visit later in the year.
Activate Next Quarter’s Bonus Starting Tomorrow
You can activate next quarter’s bonus categories starting September 15, 2014.
For October, November, and December 2014, you’ll earn 5 points per $1 you spend, or 5% cash back, at Amazon.com, Zappos.com, and select department stores.
And remember you can buy Amazon gift cards on Amazon.com. So you can get the 5X bonus now, then use them whenever you want because Amazon gift cards never expire!
