How do I transfer Ultimate Rewards points to United? I have the Chase Freedom Card but I have never seen that option…
Cash Back Or Ultimate Rewards Points
Pianistas’ Chase Freedom is marketed as a cash back card which earns 5 times the number of Ultimate Rewards points (up to $1,500 or 7,500 points a quarter) on purchases he would normally make.
You can redeem these Ultimate Rewards points for cash back (which is how the Chase Freedom card is marketed). Or transfer them to certain other Chase cards. And from there to airlines or hotels!
Each quarter, there are different bonus categories, so Pianistas can earn an additional $300 cash back or 30,000 Ultimate Rewards points a year (7,500 points per quarter X 4 quarters in a year) assuming he spends $1,500 in each quarterly bonus category.
The Chase Freedom is a fee-free card so Pianistas should keep it for a long time. Keeping a card for a long time helps increase his credit score and builds a history with Chase which often has the best offers.
Transfer To Airlines Or Hotels
Pianistas has not seen the “Transfer Points to Travel Partners” option when he signs into his Ultimate Rewards account because the Chase Freedom does not allow – direct – transfers to airline and hotels!
Pianistas has to transfer the Ultimate Rewards points from his Chase Freedom to an Ultimate Rewards points earning card such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus, which allows you to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to hotels and airlines.
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to transfer points from the Chase Freedom to a card which allows you to transfer them to hotels and airlines.
So he should first transfer his Ultimate Rewards Points from the Chase Freedom to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus.
And then log-in to his Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus and click on “Transfer Points to Travel Partners” to transfer his Ultimate Rewards points to airlines or hotels such as United or Hyatt!
I like to transfer my Ultimate Rewards points to United, Hyatt, & Southwest, but you should transfer to the airline or hotel which meets your travel needs the best.
Pianistas can’t transfer Ultimate Rewards points from his Chase Freedom card to United unless he has a Chase Ink Bold, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
But he can transfer points from his Ultimate Rewards points to the Chase Ink Bold, Chase Ink Plus, or Chase Sapphire Preferred card. And then transfer them to airline or hotel partners!
