Here’s some good news to ponder while you’re sitting in front of the fireplace sipping on eggnog and looking for holiday gifts online.  The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is now offering some cardholders 5% cash back when you shop at certain department stores.  This offer was sent out via email, so you’ll want to check to see if you qualify! (Offer subject to change at any time)

If you’re not familiar with this card check out our review learn more about the card’s other benefits.

Personally, I think this is a great card for those who are looking to earn cash back in lieu of hotel points or airline miles.  And sometimes it’s just nice to have cash back in your bank account.  Sure, you can still use that money to buy a cheap plane ticket when a deal pops up, but if you’d rather make a reservation at that new restaurant for a fancy night out you’ve got the flexibility to do that as well.

How Much Money Will You Get Back While Shopping Online During the Holidays?  If the Answer Is Less Than 5%, Hopefully You Were Targeted for This American Express Deal

I’m excited about this because 5% is not an insignificant amount.  Think of it as a 5% raise on your holiday spending.  How nice is that?  Yes, it’s limited to certain purchases, but many of the businesses that are offering this cash back are places that you would shop regardless.

Are There Any Limits With This American Express Offer?

Yes.  Well, the biggest limit is that it’s not available for everyone.  If you’ve been selected to receive this deal, you’ll see an email announcing the 5% cash back in your inbox.  The subject line reads “Earn 5% Cash Back on up to $1,000 in purchases at Select U.S. Department Stores until 12/31/18.”

The wording is a bit misleading as well.  AMEX says they are actually offering an additional 3% on top of the 2% you’ll already earn back for shopping at certain US department stores with this card.  So it’s 5% total, but I’ve got a tip on how to save more with this card (read on and I’ll share that secret below).

And this extra 3% offer only applies to the first $1,000 you spend by December 31, 2018.  But all in all, it’s still free money, right?  Definitely worth checking to see if this email got lost in your spam folder.

Where Can You Shop to Get 5% Cash Back?

There is a long list of department stores that are included in the cash back offer.  Here’s where you can shop:

The cash Back will be reflected in a statement credit at the end of the month.

Stacking Your Rewards

Here’s a little secret (I love sharing secrets like this one).  AMEX cardholders can get extra savings with AMEX offers.

For example, a few months ago I signed up for Stitchfix (I was feeling uninspired in my closet, that’s another story).  Then, a few weeks ago I noticed an AMEX offer for $25 off a $50 Stitchfix purchase.  All I had to do was add the offer to my card and I can save an easy $25.  There are a ton of different offers, from discounts on wine to restaurants to clothing to…just take a look, you’ll find something you need.

And when you combine this offer with a cash back reward you’re essentially doubling dipping.  You’ll get cash back and discounts off things you’re buying anyway.  Can you tell I’m a huge fan of this concept?

Why This Card is Great for Cash Back

We know the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday is a great card for those who are looking to make some cash back as they’re doing holiday shopping.  But aside from this 5% cash back offer, there are also some really nice features on this card that also make it ideal for some folks.  For example, you’ll get:

And you get all of that with no annual fee!

Do you have the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card?  If not, this is a great time to check it out.  Let me know if you were selected for this offer in the comments section below!
