Here are all the ways to earn Hyatt points.
You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or (no longer offered) Chase Ink Bold cards.
If you have the Chase Freedom or Chase Ink Cash cards, you can combine your points and transfer them to Hyatt as long as you have 1 of the other cards!
That’s great because the Freedom has rotating 5X points categories. And through December 31, 2015, you can earn up to 15,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when shopping at Amazon.
Here’s my full review of the Chase Sapphire Preferred. It’s the #1 card I recommend for folks new to our miles & points hobby.
The bonus of 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points is nearly enough for 3 nights at Hyatt’s top hotels (worth $1,000 or more)!
Another way to stay at these top Hyatt hotels is to use the free night certificates that come with the Chase Hyatt card.
5 Top Hyatt Hotels in the US for Award Stays
Hyatt hotels include Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Place, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Resorts, Hyatt House, and Park Hyatt brand hotels.I like using Hotel Hustle to find hotels because it shows you how many points you’ll need for your specific travel dates, and if award nights are available!
Or use AwardMapper.
I haven’t personally stayed at all these hotels, but they have great reviews! Let me know if you’ve had an experience with any of them!
Note: The prices in these examples are based on travel in April 2016.1. Andaz 5th Avenue in New York City
Emily and I stayed at the Andaz 5th Avenue. It’s a Category 6 Hyatt hotel located in central Manhattan. This is 1 of our most memorable Hyatt stays, and folks on TripAdvisor have similar opinions!Rates here start at ~$425 or 25,000 Hyatt points per night.
So you’ll get 2 nights with the Chase Sapphire Preferred bonus. But here’s how you can get three!
If you sign-up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you’ll have at least 54,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after completing the $4,000 minimum spending requirement.
And you can add an authorized user to earn 5,000 more Chase Ultimate Rewards points, for a total of 59,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points, which is most of the way toward 3 award nights in New York. (Remember you also get 2X points spent on travel & dining.)
You could save ~$1,275 on your 3-night stay in the Big Apple!
This hotel is walking distance to some of biggest attractions of New York, like Times Square, the New York Public Library, Central Park, and of course the world-famous shopping on 5th Avenue!
Here are my tips on how to get Big Travel with Small Money in New York!
2. Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa
Emily and I also loved our stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. It’s on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, which is 1 of the less-explored islands. So it truly felt like a getaway! The hotel is on the southern tip of the island and set over 52 acres! But the grounds felt easy to navigate, and none of the pools were too crowded.
When I checked, nights here cost ~$589, but rates can go up or down depending on the season. And award nights cost 25,000 Hyatt points per night. So the sign-up bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Hyatt card is worth nearly ~$1,200 here!
If you want to stay longer in Hawaii, or explore another island, here are my tips on how to mix-and-match paid and award nights with Airbnb. I found places for rent on every island to suit every budget and travel style!
3. Hyatt French Quarter New Orleans
Nights at the Hyatt French Quarter New Orleans cost ~$299 or 15,000 Hyatt points per night. But rates vary a LOT depending on the season, and if there are any events in town (Mardi Gras, anyone?).
Folks on TripAdvisor have great things to say about the location and service. And because this is a Category 4 hotel, you can use the annual free night certificate from your Chase Hyatt card here!
Considering the annual fee on the card is $75, and nights here can cost well over ~$300, the annual free night makes the card a keeper year after year.
4. Grand Hyatt San Francisco
If location is your main concern, the Grand Hyatt San Francisco is hard to top. It’s located in Union Square, which means it’s easy to get to nearly anywhere in San Francisco by walking or taking the metro.
Shop, eat out, and enjoy nearby museums, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Rates are ~$339 or 20,000 Hyatt points per night. You can save a lot of money if you redeem your points for award nights here!
5. Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa
Nights at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa are ~$579 or 15,000 Hyatt points per night. So the 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points you’ll earn are worth over $1,700 for 3 nights!
The hotel is located north of Naples, so most folks fly into Fort Myers and drive down. You’ll find 26 acres on the Gulf of Mexico to explore, including a golf course, in-house restaurants, and a spa.
There are also 3 swimming pools to enjoy and plenty of activities to keep the whole family busy. Considering temperatures here can be in the 80s year-round, some folks might consider this hotel for a winter warm-up!
Folks on TripAdvisor rated this the #1 hotel in the area! And, because this is a Category 4 hotel, you can use your annual free night certificate here. If you and your partner both have the Chase Hyatt card, you could get 2 back-to-back award nights here and save well over $1,000!
Bottom Line
There are several terrific Hyatt hotels here in the US where you can get Big Travel with Small Money when you transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Hyatt (or use the 2 free award night certificates after you meet the minimum spending on the Chase Hyatt card).
Get award nights at well-located hotels like the Hyatt French Quarter New Orleans, or the Grand Hyatt San Francisco. Emily and I loved our time at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa and the Andaz 5th Avenue.
You can earn 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points after meeting minimum spending on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening a new Chase Sapphire Preferred card, which you can transfer to Hyatt to save $1,000 (or much more!) on award nights!
