There’s a better offer for the Hilton Honors Surpass Credit Card From American Express.
You’ll earn 85,000 Hilton points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account. This matches the highest offer I’ve seen for this card.
Usually, the sign-up bonus is 60,000 Hilton points after meeting minimum spending requirements.
I’ll share the details!
What’s the Deal?

You’ll earn 85,000 Hilton points when you sign-up for the American Express Hilton Honors Surpass card and spend $3,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
You’ll also get:
- Free Hilton Gold Elite status (free breakfast and upgrades when available)
- Free Hilton Diamond status when you spend more than $40,000 in a calendar year (better upgrades)
- 12 Hilton points for every $1 you spend at Hilton hotels
- 6 Hilton points per $1 you spend at US restaurants, supermarkets & gas stations
- 3 Hilton points per $1 you spend on everything else
- Terms and limitations apply
The annual fee of $75 is NOT waived for the 1st year (but if you are in the military, you can get it waived anyway). And, there’s a ~3% foreign transaction fee. So it’s not a good card to travel with internationally.
That said, this card earns the most Hilton points for paid stays out of all the Hilton credit cards. So it’s the best card for folks who spend a lot of money at Hilton hotels.
And the American Express Hilton Honors Surpass card gets you Hilton Gold elite status, which can save you lots of money on free breakfast when you stay with Hilton. If you stay often, that can add up!
Hilton hotels include Conrad, Canopy, Curio, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Home2Suites, Homewood Suites, and Waldorf Astoria brand hotels.Remember, you can only earn the sign-up bonus on AMEX personal cards ONCE per person, per lifetime. So if you’ve had this card before, you can NOT get the bonus again.
However, if you have other Hilton cards, like the American Express Hilton Honors, Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card, or Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card, you CAN get the bonus on this card, because it’s considered a different card product.
You can usually only apply for 1 AMEX card per day. And have a total of 4 AMEX credit cards at 1 time.
Should You Sign-Up?
This is a terrific offer!
And this is the highest sign-up bonus offer I’ve seen on this card. So I do NOT think it will go any higher. If you’ve been thinking of adding this card to your wallet, this is a great opportunity.
You could use 85,000 Hilton points to splurge at a top-tier Hilton hotel (sometimes worth $700+ per night!) like the Conrad Hong Kong or the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa, where Emily and I stayed.
Or, you could stretch your points for more nights at lower-category hotels. 85,000 Hilton points is enough for 21 nights at Category 1 Hilton hotels or 11 nights at Category 2 hotels. Because you always get the 5th night free on award stays when you have elite status with Hilton (which is a perk of this card)!
Check out my top 10 hotels to book with Hilton points. And my favorite Hilton hotels in Europe, the US, Australia & the South Pacific, Asia, the Caribbean, and on US beaches.
Don’t forget, if you know where and when you want to travel, use the Hilton Honors Point Search Tool to quickly find hotels.
If you are not immediately approved, you can ask AMEX to reconsider your application. Points usually post to your account during the billing cycle when you meet the minimum spending requirements.
All the Ways to Earn Hilton Points
There are lots of other ways to earn Hilton points.
My favorite Hilton card is still the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve. That’s because the sign-up bonus is 2 weekend nights at almost any Hilton after you complete minimum spending requirements.
That said, you could always get both cards! Read this post for help deciding which Hilton card is right for you.
AMEX Cards Get You Discounts!
American Express cardholders can access great deals and save money. For example:
AMEX Offers – Getting another AMEX card gives you more opportunities to be targeted for these discounts. And you can get the same offer on more than 1 card! ShopRunner – You’ll get a ShopRunner membership by having an AMEX card. This gives you free shipping from dozens of online merchants.Bottom Line
You’ll earn 85,000 Hilton points after you meet minimum spending requirements on the AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass card. This is as high as this offer gets. And I’m not sure how long it will last.
My favorite Hilton card is still the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve. But the AMEX Hilton Honors Surpass card is a good choice if you:
- Already have other Hilton cards
- Want Hilton Gold Elite status
- Spend a lot at Hilton hotels
