Eating Around Grand Wailea
Daraius and I went to several restaurants in & around the Grand Wailea including:
- Café Kula
- Monkeypod Kitchen
- Amasia
- Kihei Caffe
- Pita Paradise
- Sweet Paradise Chocolatier
My favorite was Amasia for dinner and Kihei Caffe for breakfast.
Café Kula
We had breakfast at the hotel café, Café Kula because the regular buffet breakfast was much too expensive at $31 for the breakfast buffet.
I had a granola and yogurt parfait and Daraius had fried eggs with toast.
The food was expensive, and was served on paper plates with plastic forks and spoons.
Even the side orders were expensive. A side of bacon was $6.95.
A latte was $6 so I skipped that.
Kihei Caffe
Another morning, we went to Kihei Caffe which specializes in cinnamon rolls and pancakes. This was a reader recommendation!
They had a large menu and a long line of people waiting to order.
We got an impulse order of cinnamon rolls.
Daraius and I ordered banana macadamia nut pancakes and an American breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns, a biscuit, and gravy. We also ordered a caramel cinnamon roll and coffee.
I liked everything I ate, and the portions were huge.
The dishes were also very reasonably priced, at $7 for the breakfast plates.
Our last morning in Hawaii, we went to Kahei Caffe again and I ordered a kid’s portion of French toast…
…and Daraius ordered his favorite, fried eggs with bacon and toast.MonkeyPod Kitchen
One afternoon, I went to the pool and Daraius went to work and then out for lunch (again, fish tacos!) He walked 20 minutes to Monkeypod Kitchen for fish tacos. He ate three of them and said they were very nice!
Despite a natural, organic philosophy, the décor is modern and contemporary.
They had a very large bar.
…where they served 36 craft brews on tap.Fresh Fish Tacos.
Amasia
For dinner, we went to Amasia, which is in the Grand Wailea hotel.
This restaurant is supposed to be one of the top restaurants on the island.
It was located in a beautiful, romantically lit area of the resort.
We made reservations for 8:30 pm (their earliest available). The interior of the restaurant was very tastefully decorated.
The restaurant had an open air plan without many walls.
The rooms felt very romantic and intimate.
There were small rooms for private dining.
And you could relax and wait for your table in the Cocktail Lounge.
There’s also a sushi bar with fresh fish.
They pack them in at the sushi bar. The seating was very tight!
We ordered ham and cheese croquettes…
a tomato salad…
…corn on the cob… …a pork empanada, a beef tenderloin skewer, and tuna fish.Daraius liked the croquettes the best and I liked the corn and tomato salad the best. The empanada was pretty good too! For dessert, we ordered chocolate pudding with a sesame layer.
Dinner was very good. It was nice to share a great meal with one another!
The next day, I went swimming for a while, and I ordered a hot dog for lunch. It was $14 and came with chips and pineapple slices. The food and drinks were very overpriced.
Drinks run anywhere from $10 to $15 for one drink, to $13 to $25 for lunch. Luckily, the portions are larger and you could share them. Also, I have found that many restaurants let you order from the kids menu. Sometimes I prefer this if I am not very hungry, because I usually cannot finish one regular sized portion and do not like wasting food!
Pita Paradise
Another day, Daraius and I went to dinner at Pita Paradise, which is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the hotel. This was another reader recommendation.
We ordered two appetizers and a salad.
SaladNeither of us was hungry for a big meal. Daraius ordered calamari…
…and I ordered gnocchi Bolognese. We both liked our meals, and I also liked the Greek salad we ordered. To drink, we had guava juice and a virgin “Lava Flow” which is a frozen pina colada with strawberry puree mixed in.
The highlight may have been their fresh warm pitas with seasoning.
Sweet Paradise Chocolatier
After dinner, we went to a chocolate shop just next door.
There were so many chocolates, it was hard to choose!
I finally decided on a crème brulee chocolate, and a Lava Rock salted caramel.
Both were delicious!
