Quick Tips When Using Points
Marriott added new features to their loyalty program this year, including points advances and the capability to share your points. And later this year, they’ll merge with Starwood.
Remember, you’ll get the 5th night free on any award stay when you redeem your Marriott points! So if you want to stay longer, it’s an excellent way to save 20% on your vacation.
Two Tools to Find Marriott Hotels
I like using Hotel Hustle to find hotels for award stays because it shows you how many points you’ll need for your specific travel dates. And show you if award nights are available at hotels, including Marriott!
Another option is AwardMapper. It shows similar information. But it’s not specific to travel dates and won’t search for available award rooms.
5 Top Marriott Hotels in Australia and South Asia Where You Can Stay With Marriott Points
I haven’t personally stayed at these hotels, but they look wonderful!
Note: The prices in these examples are based on travel in April 2016. Note: Some Marriott hotels (especially resorts) add pricey resort fees to paid and award nights. Before you book, check the hotel policy to decide if it’s worth it for you. And here are my tips on how to avoid them!1. Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection
Consider the Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection for your visit to Sydney. It’s located next to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and is walking distance to the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens. You’ll also be near The Rocks, a historic neighborhood filled with shops and cafes.
I enjoyed my recent trip to Australia with my mom. And I highly recommend a tour of the world-famous Sydney Opera House!
You’ll also be near Circular Quay, where you can take a ferry to Taronga Zoo, 1 of the best zoos in the world. Or to Manly Beach – both are known for their excellent surfing!
Two nights here cost ~$669 or 80,000 Marriott points.
Folks on TripAdvisor love the location and service at this hotel!2. Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa
If you love the water, the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa is tough to beat. It’s located on Australia’s famous Gold Coast. And with a name like Surfers Paradise, you get an idea of what to expect!
Reviewers on TripAdvisor have good things to say about their experiences here. When I checked, 2 nights cost ~$575, or 70,000 Marriott points. This hotel would be great for a romantic getaway or a family trip. There are freshwater and saltwater pools (with snorkeling). And you can head over to the beach if you want to be on the ocean.
Nearby, there are attractions like Sea World where you can take the kids. Or you can relax at the resort!
When you earn 80,000 Marriott points with the Chase Marriott Premier card, you’ll have 10,000+ Marriott points left over. That’s more than enough for a night at a Marriott Category 2 hotel! So your points can be worth a lot more, depending on how you redeem them.
3. Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel
The 5-star Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel is located on Orchard Road in Singapore, with lots of transportation and dining options within easy walking distance.
You can easily get to Palawan Beach, Changi Beach Park, nearby golf resorts, or Universal Studios Singapore.
Nights here cost ~$385 or 40,000 Marriott points per night. So you can stay for 2 nights in Singapore and save $770 when you redeem 80,000 Marriott points.
Folks on TripAdvisor love the service and location of this hotel. And here are some other ideas on fun things to do when you visit Singapore!4. Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa
Set on Mai Khao Beach in Phuket the Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa is perfect for a relaxing beach getaway or romantic trip to Thailand.
This hotel costs ~$565 or 70,000 Marriott points for 2 nights. However, I got lucky and found a half-off rate. So depending on when you visit, it could cost well over $1,000, and your points could be worth much more!
The hotel is next to Sirinath Marine National Park. And you’ll have access to over 10 miles of beachfront. It’s only a ~15-minute drive from the airport, so you can start relaxing soon after you land!
Reviewers on TripAdvisor gave high marks to the staff and service. There are also 3 restaurants, a pub, and a coffeehouse on-site. So you might not even want to leave the resort!
5. Manila Marriott Hotel
The Manila Marriott Hotel is located in the Philippines’ capital city of Manila, in the Resorts World complex. So you’ll have easy access to shopping, entertainment, dining, golf, and casinos.
Emily and I stayed in a similar complex in Macau and enjoyed seeing a Vegas-style show!
There are also several restaurants in the hotel. Folks on TripAdvisor ranked this the #1 hotel in the area. And say good things about the steaks in the hotel’s steakhouse restaurant.
Nights at this hotel cost ~$303 or 35,000 Marriott points.
When you stay here, the 80,000 Marriott points you’ll earn with the Chase Marriott Premier card welcome bonus are good for 2 award nights worth over ~$600! And, you’ll have 10,000 Marriott points left to spare.
And remember, you’ll earn at least 3,000 Marriott points from meeting the minimum spending requirement. And 7,500 bonus Marriott points when you add an authorized user who makes a purchase within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
That will help you get part of the way toward another award night in Manila – or at other top Marriott hotels world-wide!

The sign-up bonus on the Chase Marriott Rewards small business card is 80,000 Marriott points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of account opening. But the $99 annual fee is NOT waived. Here’s my review of the card.
You can also get the Chase Ritz-Carlton Rewards card. You’ll earn 2 free nights at any Tier 1 to 4 Ritz-Carlton hotel, after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the 1st 3 months of opening your account.
Marriott and Ritz-Carlton are essentially the same frequent-guest program (just with different branding and marketing), so you can use your Marriott points to stay at Ritz-Carlton hotels and vice versa. The $395 annual fee is NOT waived, but it comes with perks and benefits that can easily offset it, like a $300 annual travel credit (which includes reimbursed Global Entry fees, checked luggage, and seat upgrades).
If you like Ritz-Carlton hotels, it’s a great card to have. Here’s my review.
Emily and I don’t earn a commission on the Chase Marriott Rewards small business card or Chase Ritz-Carlton Rewards card, but we’ll always let you know about the best deals!
Bottom Line
You’ll earn 80,000 Marriott points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening the Chase Marriott Premier card.
