I love road trips with friends!  So I was excited to learn about the Roadtrippers website!

You can use it to find interesting itineraries for classic road trips like Route 66, funky guides such as the United States of Bacon, as well as hotels, attractions along the way, and restaurants.

Or you can discover places to eat and things to do in your own city!

It’s easy to use Roadtrippers!

Roadtrippers helps you plan your road trip.  But you can also use it to plan a non-driving vacation and explore your hometown.

There’s an app (Apple) or (Android) so you can use Roadtrippers when you’re traveling!  Or if you’re a procrastinator like me who leaves things to the last minute. 🙁

The app lets you:

Unearth New Places With Roadtrippers

Using Roadtrippers to Plan a Road Trip

Let’s say you wanted to drive the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles to Monterey.  You can use the Roadtrippers “Plan a Trip” feature to find lodging, tourist attractions, and eateries along the way.

Fill in Your City and Click on “Plan a Trip”

Then enter your starting and ending cities, travel dates, and the information you want to see.

Type in Your Beginning and Ending Cities and Check Any Applicable Boxes

You’ll get a road map of your trip.

Roadtrippers Takes the Guess Work Out of Planning a Roadtrip and Highlights Attractions Along the Route

With Roadtrippers, you won’t miss out on seeing unique places when you travel.

You can print your trip and even email or share it on Facebook or Twitter.

Roadtrippers Guides

I like the Roadtrippers guides.  They’ve got dozens of pre-planned road trips that focus on things like food, natural attractions, and more!  It takes a lot of the work out of planning.  And it’s helpful when you want suggestions.

Roadtrippers has interesting ideas such as unique trips in the US like “America’s 6 Most Insane Oddest Natural Wonders.”

Save Time Planning or Try a New Adventure With a Roadtrippers Guide

For example, along Route 66, you can visit roadside icons like the Blue Whale of Catoosa, grab a corn dog at the Cozy Dog Drive-In (the 1st place to serve corn dogs!), and visit the Mojave National Preserve.

Blue Whale of Catoosa Is a Must See on Route 66!

Find Hotels, Attractions, and Food & Drink

You can search a city to display results for accommodations, things to do, and restaurants.

Attractions

Say you’re like me and a trip to Minneapolis will definitely include at least 1 art museum.  Roadtrippers will make suggestions.

You’ll get a map with clickable icon links.

When you double-click an icon you’ll get a page with more information.  I clicked on the camera icon (attraction) to see more information about the Walker Art Center.

Hotels

You can use Roadtrippers to look for hotels.  The website found 75 possibilities for Cape Cod.

Roadtrippers Shows Lots of Lodging Options in Cape Cod but I’d 1st Use Hotel Hustle to Show Where I Can Book a Room With Points!

And you can book certain hotels through the website!  But you can NOT book hotels through the app.

However, if you want to use points for your hotel stay, you can save time using AwardMapper or Hotel Hustle.

Note:  Hotels booked through Roadtrippers are done through Booking.com, a 3rd party site.  So you will NOT get elite stay credit and might NOT get elite perks.

Food & Drink

You can use Roadtrippers to find local restaurants besides fast food.

I found the Westridge Grill when searching for restaurants along the Blue Ridge Parkway from Virginia to North Carolina.

The Westridge Grill Is Ranked 10 Out of 112 Restaurants in Rocky Mount, North Carolina

You can filter your searches to find exactly what you’re looking for:

What I Don’t Like

There were some things I didn’t like about Roadtrippers.

1.  Account Required

You can use Roadtrippers to plan your trip, but if you want to save your information, you have to create an account.  You can NOT save a trip without an account.

Saving Your Trip Means Creating a Roadtrippers Account

2.   No Elite Stay Credit From Hotel Bookings

When you book your hotel through Roadtrippers, it routes through Booking.com which is a 3rd-party site.  You will NOT get elite stay credit and might NOT get your elite perks like free breakfast, free upgrades, and late check-out when you book through 3rd-party sites.

Booking Your Hotel Through Roadtrippers Means You Might Have to Pay for Your Breakfast

3.   Limited Reviews

Most places on Roadtrippers didn’t have any reviews.  So you have search TripAdvisorYelp, or Chowhound to read reviews.  This can be a pain if you’re using the app or are impatient like me!

There Are No Reviews for Sebastian’s General Store but Yelp Has ~10 Pages of Reader Experiences

Bottom Line

You can use Roadtrippers to plan a road trip (or find new places in your hometown) from your desktop or via app (Apple) or (Android).

The “Plan a Trip” feature lists hotels, attractions, and restaurants for your route.

You can click on an icon for more information and book some hotels!  But you can NOT book all hotels and the booking function is NOT available on the app.

Remember that you won’t get elite stay credit and might not get elite perks if you book through Roadtrippers.  That’s because it uses Booking.com, a 3rd party website.

While there were a few things I didn’t like about Roadtrippers like having to create an account and the limited reviews, I think it’s a neat website that I’ll be using more.

Because it’s useful for saving time while planning.  And there are interesting suggestions for trips and attractions.
