Via Monkey Miles, some folks will get a big discount when buying Hilton points!
Hilton has a targeted offer for a 50% discount through June 23, 2017. That means you can buy Hilton points for as little as 0.5 cents each!
So if you’re one of the Hilton members targeted for this offer, and you’ve been considering buying Hilton points, now is a great time!
Here’s what you need to know about this deal!

Link: Buy Hilton Points
Normally, Hilton sells points for 1 cent each, in 1,000 point increments. So 1,000 Hilton points usually costs $10. But through June 23, 2017, targeted folks can get a 50% discount (equal to a 100% bonus) buying 5,000+ Hilton points. That’s just 0.5 cents per point!
Hilton has had similar deals recently. However, the other deals were for 100% bonuses, NOT 50% discounts. That’s important, because the maximum number of Hilton points you can buy per calendar year (before any bonuses are applied) is 80,000 Hilton points. So with previous deals, you could buy your maximum 80,000 Hilton points at regular price, but you’d get a bonus 80,000 Hilton points, for a total of 160,000 Hilton points. But because Hilton is discounting points instead of giving a bonus, the most points you can buy from this deal is 80,000.
If you want to buy more than 80,000 Hilton points this year, it’s a good idea to wait and see if Hilton has another 100% bonus promotion.
If you have friends or family with Hilton accounts, you can ask them to buy points and pool them into your account for free.
Is This a Good Deal?
You can usually get ~0.5 cents in value per Hilton point when redeeming them for hotel stays. So you will likely not lose money if you buy points for 0.5 cents through this deal.
Though it’s possible to get much more value (or less!) from Hilton points.
For example, the Gran Hotel Montesol Ibiza, Curio Collection by Hilton costs $163 per night, but costs 35,000 Hilton points for a free night. That means you’ll get a value of ~0.47 cents per point ($163 cost of room / 35,000 Hilton points).
But the Hampton by Hilton Newport/East sells rooms for $123. And you can redeem 10,000 Hilton points for a free night, giving you a value of ~1.23 cents per point ($123 cost of room / 10,000 Hilton points).
Buying points through this promotion means you could stay in a $123 room at the Hampton by Hilton Newport/East for just $50 (10,000 Hilton points X 0.5 cents per point).
As always, do the math to see what makes sense for you!
Want More Hilton Points?
There are plenty of ways to earn Hilton points if you aren’t interested in buying them. For example, you can transfer other miles & points to Hilton. AMEX Membership Rewards points, Virgin Atlantic miles, and Hawaiian Airlines miles transfer to Hilton at a ratio of 2:3.
Or, you could sign-up for a Hilton co-branded credit card:
- Hilton Honors™ Card from American Express
- Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express
- Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Visa Signature® Card
- Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card
Bottom Line
Until June 23, 2017, targeted Hilton Honors members can get up to a 50% bonus on Hilton points purchases when they buy 5,000+ points.
I recommend doing the math to see if the promotion makes sense for you. Because purchasing points for an award stay could potentially cost less compared to the actual cost of a room night.
