Via The Points Guy, the Chase Ink Plus card will no longer be open to new applicants later this year.  So if you’ve been considering the Ink Plus card, now is the time to apply!

Especially if you’re interested in earning 5X bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points on things like office supplies and cell phone bills.  Because the new Chase Ink Preferred small business card will NOT have 5X bonus points categories!

Earning 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards Points at Office Supply Stores Is One of the BEST Perks From the Chase Ink Plus Card

Here’s more about what this means for you.

Apply for the Chase Ink Plus Card Before It’s Too Late!

I recently let y’all know about the new Ink Preferred small business card from Chase, that will be available by the end of 2016.  And once the Ink Preferred card is open for applications, Chase plans to retire the Ink Plus card.

This isn’t the first time an Ink card has been retired.  I still have an Ink Bold card which is no longer available.

And although the new Ink Preferred card will have a bigger sign-up bonus than the current offer for the Ink Plus card, there are differences in the cards’ bonus categories.

No More 5X Bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards Points Categories

With the new Ink Preferred card, you’ll earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.  And you’ll get 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points for every $1 you spend on travel, telecommunications, shipping, and advertising on social media and search engines (to a maximum of $150,000 in combined purchases per account anniversary year).

That’s great news for folks who spend a lot in those bonus categories, on things like airline tickets and hotel stays.  And you’ll earn 20,000 MORE Chase Ultimate Rewards points compared to the 60,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards point sign-up bonus on the Ink Plus card.

Earning 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points With the New Chase Ink Preferred Card Is Great News for Folks Who Like Big Travel. But the Card Will NOT Earn 5X Points in Categories Like Phone Bills, Internet, and Office Supply Stores

But one of the major perks of the Ink Plus card is that it earns 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points for purchases at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, internet, and cable TV services.  And I’d bet most folks spend more in these bonus categories than on things like advertising on social media.

So if you’re interested in the Ink Plus card and earning 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points in certain popular categories, you should apply before it’s too late!

Bottom Line

Once the Chase Ink Preferred card is officially available, you will no longer be able to apply for the Chase Ink Plus card.  This is rumored to happen before the end of 2016.

So if you’ve been considering the Ink Plus card, and especially if you want to earn 5X bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points at office supply stores and on things like cell phone bills can cable TV, now is the time to apply!

Because the new Chase Ink Preferred card will likely NOT have any 5X bonus categories.
