The day has come! Chase has discontinued the old co-branded Marriott card, and replaced it with the new and improved Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card.
All the information we’ve previously heard about the card is accurate. It comes with a sign-up bonus big enough for some amazing hotel stays, like 2 nights in the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples. As well as some solid ongoing benefits, like an annual free night at qualifying hotels!
Here’s what you can expect from the all-new Marriott Rewards Premier Plus!

You’ll earn 100,000 Marriott points after spending $5,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening with the new Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card. You’ll also get:
- Free Night Award (at hotels costing 35,000 Marriott points or less) every year after your account anniversary
- Earn 6 Marriott points per $1 spent at participating Marriott Rewards & Starwood hotels
- Earn 2 Marriott points per $1 spent on all other purchases
- Automatic Silver Elite Status (20% bonus points on paid stays, late check-out when available)
- Gold Elite Status (25% bonus points on paid stays, lounge access / free breakfast, guaranteed late check-out, room upgrades when available) when you spend $35,000 on purchases each account year
- Coming in 2019, 15 elite night credits each calendar year
- NO foreign transaction fees
The card’s $95 annual fee is NOT waived the first year.
Note: If you currently have the old Marriott Rewards Premier (no longer available) card, or received the new cardmember bonus from it in the last 24 months, you’re not eligible for the bonus on the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus.
However, if you’re a current Marriott Rewards Premier cardholder, check your email! Folks are reporting receiving bonus point offers to upgrade their current card to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus. Here’s a link to check for upgrade offers.
Update: Thanks to Million Mile Secrets reader Marie for pointing out if you upgrade your old Marriott card to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus, your account anniversary date (and the date you receive your annual award night) may change. Chase’s terms say:
Please note that completing this product change may result in a change to the month you receive your annual Marriott Free Night Award e-certificate. Anniversary year means the year beginning with your account open date through the first statement date after your account open date anniversary, and the 12 monthly billing cycles after that each year.
So if your account anniversary is coming up soon, it’s best to wait until after that date to upgrade to the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus.
And this card will likely be affected by the Chase “5/24 rule”. So if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for this offer.
However, the Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card is NOT affected by the Chase 5/24 rule. So that could be a good option if you don’t qualify for the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus.
Is the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus a Good Deal?
100,000 Marriott points is a LOT. You can stay at some pretty excellent hotels with a hefty bonus like that.
For example, you could spend 3 nights at the Breadsall Priory Marriott Hotel & Country Club in the UK! Depending on your travel dates, that could cost $650+ in cash.
Marriott will soon be re-categorizing a lot of their hotels. We don’t yet know which are going up or down in price, but it’s safe to bet you’ll still save hundreds and hundreds of dollars with this card.
Plus, the card’s annual free night on your card anniversary at hotels costing 35,000 Marriott points or less will almost certainly make the card worth keeping. I pay my Marriott card’s annual fee year after year. Because I always get more value from it than I pay for the annual fee.
Last time I used the free night, I reserved a room in San Jose that cost $185. That’s $90 more than this card’s annual fee!
Because Marriott and Starwood are merging, you’ll have THOUSANDS of options to use the annual free night. So if you think you’ll spend even 1 night at a Marriott hotel per year, this card is worth considering.
Bottom Line
You can now apply for the all-new Marriott Rewards Premier Plus! You’ll earn 100,000 Marriott points after spending $5,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening. That’s a great deal!
The card also comes with good ongoing benefits, like:
- 6 Marriott points per $1 spent at participating Marriott Rewards & Starwood hotels
- Free night award (at hotels costing 35,000 Marriott points or less) every year after account anniversary
- Automatic Silver elite status (20% bonus points on paid stays, late check-out when available)
The annual free night on your card anniversary alone is worth keeping the card. Because as long as you stay at a Marriott hotel once per year anyway, you’ll almost certainly make up for the $95 annual fee!
Let me know what you think of the new Chase Marriott Premier Plus!
