The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is a good value for businesses, especially if you use Delta or its partners as your preferred airlines.
Currently, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is offering a welcome bonus of 35,000 Delta SkyMiles and 5,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.
But it’s the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card benefits that make this card a keeper. It could save you a ton in checked bag fees alone, and with other travel perks and protections, plus the option to earn up to 20,000 additional redeemable miles and MQMs every year, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is an excellent mid-tier business credit card.

The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card comes with a 35,000 Delta SkyMiles and 5,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs) after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of opening an account. Plus, you’ll earn a $100 statement credit after making a Delta purchase in the same time frame.
While the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card comes with a $195 annual fee (See Rates & Fees), the welcome bonus is worth a minimum of $350 in Delta flights when you book using Delta Pay With Miles. You’ll often much more value from your Delta miles when you use them for award flights on Delta or partners like Air France, KLM or Virgin Atlantic.
You’ll also get a wide range of benefits that include travel perks and business-friendly features which can make the card’s annual fee worthwhile, even beyond the welcome bonus.
Here are the card’s top benefits:
Annual Companion Fare on Delta Flights
Out of all of the benefits that come with the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, aside from the insane welcome bonus, the companion fare is one of my favorite perks. Each year when you renew your card, you’ll receive a companion ticket valid for round-trip Delta main cabin domestic travel (just pay taxes and fees for your companion when you buy a paid ticket). This could be worth hundreds of dollars depending on the route you fly, and there are no blackout dates.
The way I see it, you’re rewarded each year for merely having the card. You could not spend a single cent with your card in a calendar year and still get a companion certificate for the price of the annual fee.
Priority Boarding
One of my least favorite parts of any flight is when I board the aircraft only to discover no room for my bag. When there’s no room in the overhead bins, I’m forced to take the walk of shame back up the aisle to check my carry-on.
With the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, you’ll get Main Cabin 1 priority boarding for you and up to eight companions traveling on the same reservation. Boarding early means first access to overhead bins and more time to get settled in your seat.
Free Checked Bag
Checking a bag is unavoidable for some travelers. What is avoidable is having to pay to check a bag.
With the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, you and up to eight companions on the same reservation get the first checked bag free when flying Delta. With checked bags costing $30 each way, you’ll save $60 per person, per round-trip flight. Even if you fly Delta just twice a year, that’s savings of over $100 on checked bags alone.
20% Back on Inflight Purchases
I no longer have elite status with Delta which means I’m almost always stuck in the back of the plane. On longer flights, I always find myself craving a snack, so I cave and order from Delta’s inflight menu. With the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card, you can save 20% on inflight purchases like food and drinks.
When you pay with your card, you’ll receive those savings in the form of a statement credit each billing cycle. If you fly Delta quite a bit and never seem to win the upgrade lottery, this benefit will likely end up being one of your favorite benefits of the card.
Discounted Delta Sky Club Airport Lounge Access
If you want complimentary access to Delta Sky Club airport lounges, you’ll want to consider the Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card. But if, like many travelers, you’re most concerned with getting to your destination as quickly and cheaply as possible, then I wouldn’t worry about not receiving free Sky Club access because the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card still offers discounted Sky Club access.
With the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, you and up to two guests can use any of Delta’s more than 50 Sky Clubs worldwide for just $29 per person. All you need to do is present a same-day Delta boarding pass and your card. After just one visit you will have already saved $30 over a standard day pass costing $59 per guest.
Delta Annual Miles Boost
If you plan on using the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card as your primary card for business expenses or even everyday purchases, you can earn an additional 10,000 redeemable Delta miles and 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) when you spend $25,000 in a calendar year.
That works out to about $2,100 a month, something many business owners can do in their sleep. If you’re a really big spender, when you spend $50,000 in a calendar year with your card, you’ll earn 10,000 more redeemable Delta miles and 10,000 MQMs for a total of 20,000 Delta miles and MQMs.
Because you’ll also earn an MQD waiver (see next section) for spending $25,000 in a year, it’s possible to earn Silver Delta elite status by spending $50,000 in a year on the card.
Medallion® Qualification Dollar (MQD) Waiver
If you’re chasing after elite status with Delta, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is a fantastic card, and not only because of the miles boost benefit. If you’re concerned about meeting the minimum spending requirement Delta has for all Medallion status tiers, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card can provide you with some peace of mind.
As long as you spend at least $25,000 in a calendar year with your card, you’ll only need to meet Delta’s Medallion® Qualification Miles or Medallion® Qualification Segments requirements for Silver, Gold, and Platinum Medallion Delta status.
If you’re after the big kahuna, Diamond Medallion status, you’ll need to spend $250,000 in a year using your Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card.
Extended Warranty
The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is not only a solid card for travel but also for protecting your purchases.
When you pay for an eligible item with the card, the original manufacturer’s warranty can be extended up to two additional years on eligible warranties of five years or less. American Express will cover purchases up to $10,000 per claim, up to $50,000 per account per year.

Purchase Protection
The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card offers purchase protection. If an eligible item you’ve bought with the card is accidentally damaged or stolen within 120 days of purchase, you could be reimbursed up to $1,000 per item and $10,000 per account per year.

Travel Coverage
The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is great for travelers who want peace of mind and assurance that if a trip doesn’t go as planned or the unthinkable happens, they’ll be covered.
This card offers a variety of travel coverage benefits. However, as with all cards, I highly recommend that you read the terms and conditions before assuming you’re covered.
Travel Accident InsuranceIn some cases, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card will cover accidental injury or death that occurs on a common carrier.
A common carrier includes airlines, cruise operators, bus services or passenger trains. For the full terms and conditions of this benefit visit American Express’ website.
Baggage InsuranceIf your luggage is lost, damaged or stolen, you may be covered by the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card. As long as you use your card for travel on a common carrier (airline, cruise operator, train or bus service) and purchase the entire fare using your card, you can receive up to $500 for checked bags and up to $1,250 for carry-on bags.

Car Rental Loss and Damage CoverageThe Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card also offers secondary car rental coverage up to $50,000 if your car is damaged or stolen.
Million Mile Secrets’ team member Harlan discovered just how valuable car rental coverage can be when he almost had to pay almost $700 for a small dent.
Make sure you’re familiar with the terms and conditions of the car rental loss and damage insurance benefit by visiting American Express’ official website.
Roadside AssistanceAnother useful benefit of the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is the Amex 24-hour Roadside Assistance Hotline. They can help you arrange the following:
- Towing
- Winching
- Jump starts
- Flat tires (when you’ve got a working spare)
- Delivery of up to two gallons of fuel
- Lockout service when the key is in your vehicle
It’s free to call, but you will be charged for any services you use. Here are all the details of the Amex Roadside Assistance Hotline.
Business Benefits of the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card
So far, most of the benefits I’ve listed have been related to travel. As a business card, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card also offers a variety of benefits for small businesses:
- You can set spending limits for individual employees and authorized card holders
- You may be protected from unauthorized card use by employees
- Zero liability for unauthorized purchases made with company cards
- American Express Spend Manager
- No foreign transaction fees (See Rates & Fees)
Bottom Line
The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is a good mid-tier credit card for businesses, freelancers or even those with a side gig who are looking for a balance between benefits and practicality. It’s a no-brainer if you’re loyal to Delta or any of its partners.
It comes with a welcome offer of 35,000 Delta miles and 5,000 Medallion Qualifcation Miles (MQMs) after meeting minimum spending requirements, and a $100 statement credit after making a Delta purchase in the first three months of account opening,
Plus, you’ll receive perks that appeal to both frequent flyers and business owners. Even with an annual fee of $195, the card’s solid benefits can easily make up for the fee.
Some of my favorite benefits of the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card include an annual Delta main cabin round-trip coach companion certificate and 20% back on inflight purchases. However, it’s Delta’s Annual Miles Boost® that I rank as my favorite benefit of the card. With Delta’s Annual Miles Boost, you can earn up to 20,000 redeemable Delta miles and 20,000 Medallion Qualification Miles after reaching certain spending thresholds, without ever stepping foot on a Delta flight.
