It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 — How to set up an IHG account

Lots of MMS readers love earning and using IHG points, but if you’re just starting out in the miles & points hobby, you’ll need to sign up for an IHG loyalty account to start working your way to free hotel stays. The good news is it’s free, quick and easy.

Once you have an account, you can earn IHG points by staying at IHG properties or by making purchases with certain rewards credit cards. IHG has a co-branded hotel credit card, the IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card and the Ultimate Rewards points you earn with some Chase credit cards can be transferred to IHG.

Here’s how to setup an IHG account online.

Go to IHG’s website

First, you’ll need to head to IHG’s website and click “Sign In / Join” at the upper right-hand corner of the homepage.

A box will appear and from there, you can either sign in with your existing credentials or create a new account. To set up a new account click the “Join Now” button.

Complete the registration form

IHG’s registration form is about as straightforward as it gets. All you’ll need to provide is your name, email and mailing address and after entering a password, check the “Terms and Conditions” and “Privacy Statement” boxes and click the “Join Now” button.

Just make sure you enter your information correctly because you won’t have a chance to review it prior to confirming your account.

Confirmation

After registering you’ll get confirmation of your account along with your member number. You’ll also get an email with your registration information. There’s nothing more to do.

Once you have account setup you’ll want to include your IHG number on your application for any IHG credit card, otherwise a second account will be created for you and you’ll need to go through the hassle of merging the accounts. You’ll also need your account number if you’re going to transfer points from a travel credit card, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.
