I recently stayed at a Marriott TownPlace Suites and was pleasantly surprised by the experience.  TownPlace Suites are extended stay hotels.  Their rooms are spacious suites with full kitchens, and you get complimentary hot breakfast.  Marriott’s TownPlace Suites are perfect for families and for travelers with long stays at a destination.  But any traveler will enjoy these hotels, and you can book rooms with Marriott points earned from credit cards!

As a mom, extended stay hotels excite me.  I like that I can easily store my daughter’s milk and other foods she likes to eat.  And if I get a 1-bedroom suite, I love having a separate area for my daughter to sleep since she goes to bed before my partner and me.

I Really Enjoyed My Stay at Marriott’s TownPlace Suites Hotel!

Marriott TownPlace Suites Locations

TownePlace Suites has over 300 locations across the US and Canada.  Marriott seems to be building a lot of new TownPlace Suites locations, so we will be seeing more of these hotels in the future!  You have to search by city to find Marriott TownPlace Suite locations.

For example, when I searched for TownPlace Suites in Denver, Colorado, I found 8 different locations.

These are Just 2 Examples of the 8 TownPlace Suites I Found in Denver

Rooms

TownPlace Suites have studio suites, 1-bedroom suites, and 2-bedroom suites.  The 2-bedroom suites are only available at select locations.  All rooms have a full kitchen, the Container Store closets, a separate living area with a sofa, and a home office desk.  Free breakfast is included in your booking.  The hotels all have swimming pools, which is great for families with children!

Some of my favorite Marriott TownPlace Suites amenities include:

  • Something Borrowed (Borrow board games, playing cards, blenders, and more!)
  • Full kitchen
  • Hot breakfast
  • Free wifi
  • On-site laundry
  • Fitness center
  • Pool
  • Pet-friendly
The Marriott TownPlace Suites Full Kitchen Is Great for Families!

Food & Beverage

I tried the TownPlace Suites free breakfast, and enjoyed the variety.  I could choose from biscuits and gravy, eggs, breakfast meats, and a waffle/pancake option.  There was also yogurt and cereal.

Booking

You can book TownPlace Suites with cash, cash and points, or just points.  The number of points required depends on the specific hotel and whether it’s an off-peak, standard, or peak award.  Most TownPlace Suites are categories 2 to 4, so you could pay anywhere from 10,000 points for off-peak awards to 30,000 Marriott points for peak awards.

To put that in perspective, you can earn a welcome bonus of 75,000 Marriott points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months with the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express.  That means you can get ~4 free nights of category 3 standard suites!  (17,500 points X 4 nights = 70,000 points total).  You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Marriott for free at a 1:1 ratio!

I was able to book a 1-bedroom suite for the same number of points (17,500) as a studio suite in Detroit, Michigan.  But when I searched for a TownPlace Suites in Orlando, Florida, my only option was a studio suite for 25,000 points.  I could not book a 1-bedroom or 2-bedroom suite with points.

Most TownPlace Suites Are Category 2 to Category 4

Bottom Line

Marriott’s TownPlace Suites are wonderful hotels for families.  They are also affordable since you can get ~4 free nights of category 3 standard suites with just 1 credit card intro bonus.  I’m usually a Hyatt loyalist, but will be seriously considering Marriott’s TownPlace Suites for the future!

TownPlace Suites can be great (I am currently living in one while I have no water or sewer at my house), but they vary considerably. I have stayed in great properties (Tampa, Orlando near Sea World), and terrible ones (Ft. Lauderdale near the executive airport, which is no longer a Marriott, thank goodness).

More than other hotels, I have found that they are dependent on their management. This is probably because of the mix of clientele, which I am sure can be challenging to balance. The newer builds are also much nicer, not just because they are new, but because some of the older properties are just not wearing well. Thin doors between rooms, a mixed-bag of appliances, and a consistent but unvaried breakfast day-to-day.

I will continue to choose them when the location, price, and reviews are right, but overall, they need to step up to compete with Homewood Suites (IMHO).

Thanks for the tip! I also experienced thin walls, but everything else was pretty top notch. I’m a Hyatt girl, and the points prices still can’t compete with the cheaper Hyatt Places / Hyatt Houses.

TownPlace Suites are full of long-term noisy and drunken construction crews too. Why don’t you do your readers a favor and stop sounding like a non-stop shill for everything you write about?
