Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card Benefits and Perks

Apply Here: Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card from American Express

You don’t need to have an office and a huge staff to qualify for this small business credit card. Even Uber drivers, Etsy shops and bloggers (like myself) can qualify for this card. As long as you have a for-profit venture (even a side hustle) you could be eligible. Check out our post on how to fill out an Amex business card application for tips.

The intro bonus of 30,000 Delta miles after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening, and a $50 statement credit when you make a Delta purchase with your card in the same time frame. That’s more than enough to justify the card’s $95 annual fee which is waived for the first year (See Rates & Fees).

But there are additional perks and benefits that make the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card worth keeping long term. Here’s a rundown:

Priority Boarding: Be One of the First on the Plane

Fear the chaotic boarding process no more. The Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card offers priority boarding free of charge when you fly with Delta.

Priority boarding is a valuable benefit not just because you get to board first and avoid the crowds in the gate area. When you’re among the first to board, you’ll also have first dibs at storing your bags in the overhead bins. As someone who’s been stuck in one of the final boarding groups more than a few times in my life, I have had the experience of seeing every overhead bin full of bags as I made my way down the aisle.

So you’ll avoid having to check your carry-on bag and have plenty of time to get settled onboard the aircraft. Delta typically charges $15 per flight for this perk. If you fly just one round-trip flight with Delta in a year, you’ll get a value of $30 with this benefit.

Free First Checked Bag

I never check a bag but I know plenty of travelers who do. When you fly Delta, your first checked bag is $30 per one-way trip, but when you have the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, the first checked bag is free for you and up to eight companions on the same reservation. This perk could save you $60 round-trip per person.

Checked bag fees add up. If you fly round-trip with Delta twice in a year, you’ll save $120 just on those fees. Factor in the priority boarding benefit and you’ll save $180 on just two trips with Delta over the course of a year, which makes up for the $95 annual fee almost twice over.

20% Back on Inflight Purchases

I no longer have elite status with Delta so I don’t have Medallion® status for free upgrades. I’m always stuck in the main cabin. That’s a not a huge deal on most domestic flights, but on longer flights, cravings get the best of me. With the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, you save 20% on all inflight purchases with Delta.

That means saving 20% on cheese plates, a cocktail and any other items that are offered for purchase onboard. This benefit can add up, especially if you fly with Delta a lot. All inflight savings will come in the form of a statement credit.

Extended Warranty

When you purchase an eligible item with the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card, Amex will extend the original manufacturer’s warranty up to two additional years on eligible warranties of five years or less. Here’s more about extended warranty coverage.

Purchase Protection

The Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card also offers purchase protection on eligible purchases. Just make sure to use your card for the full amount of the purchase to qualify.

Items will be covered if they’re accidentally damaged or stole for 120 days from the date of purchase. Some items are ineligible, so be sure to consult American Express’ full terms and conditions before assuming your purchase is covered.

Coverage is limited up to $10,000 per item or $50,000 per account per calendar year.

Return Protection

Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card card holders receive return protection on eligible purchases.

If you try to return an eligible item within 90 days of the date of purchase and the merchant won’t take it back, you may be refunded the full purchase price, up to $300 per item and a maximum of $1,000 per year. You can read about important exclusions here.

Travel Coverage

The Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card not only offers benefits for Delta flyers but also travelers in general. With a relatively low annual fee, the card doesn’t offer as extensive coverage as some other cards when traveling, but you’ll still have some peace of mind when you’re out on the road.

Travel Accident Insurance

In the event that you have an accident when traveling on a common carrier (like an airline, cruise operator, train, ferry or bus service), the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card may cover you for up to $100,000 in accidental death and dismemberment insurance. You must pay the full fare with your card.

There are some exclusions so be sure to consult the full terms and conditions available on the American Express website.

Baggage Insurance Plan

When you use your Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card to purchase the full amount of a ticket on a common carrier (includes airlines, cruise operators, trains, ferry services, or bus services), you may be eligible for baggage insurance.

In the event that your bags are lost, damaged or stolen, you could be covered up to $500 per checked bag or $1,250 per carry-on bag. Again, consult the full terms and conditions to familiarize yourself with any exclusions.

Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance

The Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card also comes with secondary car rental loss and damage insurance up to $50,000 if your car is damaged or stolen.

For the full terms and conditions of the card’s car rental coverage, see American Express’ website. You can also take a look at our guide to rental car insurance and coverage provided by top credit cards.

Roadside Assistance Hotline

If you find yourself out on the road with car troubles, the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card offers the Amex Roadside Assistance Hotline. They’ll arrange for these common requests:

  • Towing
  • Winching
  • Jump starts
  • Flat tires (when you’ve got a working spare)
  • Delivery of up to two gallons of fuel
  • Lockout service when the key is in your vehicle

You’re responsible for the cost of any services. You can read the full terms and conditions for exclusions.

Business Benefits of The Delta Gold SkyMiles Credit Card

The Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card also offers great benefits for small and larger businesses. Here are some of the top small business benefits:

  • Request additional employee cards. You can even earn rewards on employee purchases.
  • Use American Express Spend Manager to manage receipts and notes alongside your card.
  • Check account alerts and monitoring to avoid fraudulent spending and rogue-employee card use.
  • Add other employees as account managers for easy expense management.
  • See how you used the card over the past year with American Express’ year-end summary.

Again, you don’t have to be in control of a business with a dozen or even five employees. Business credit cards like the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card are also a great option if you have a side hustle like renting out an Airbnb, freelancing or reselling on eBay.

Bottom Line

With a solid suite of travel and business benefits, the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card is a good pick for Delta flyers. The card has a 30,000 Delta mile welcome bonus after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening.

The Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card has a $95 annual fee, but it’s waived for the first year. As a long-term keeper card, the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card benefits can more than offset the annual fee cost. Some of my favorite benefits of this card include priority boarding and receiving 20% back on inflight purchases. The card also includes some great small business benefits and other travel perks.

I highly recommend this card especially if you plan on taking just a single flight with Delta in the next year. The card isn’t just a great small business credit card for Delta frequent flyers but also for everyday purchases, thanks to benefits like purchase protection and extended warranty.
