Do you find it hard stay fit and exercise while traveling? If so, you’re not alone! Many folks find it challenging to work out consistently while on the road.
Fortunately, several hotel brands offer fitness amenities like gyms, pools, yoga rooms, and exercise classes to encourage guests to keep up with their workout routines.
I’ll show you several hotel chains that offer excellent gyms and fitness programs.
Westin Hotels
Westin Hotels, a member of Starwood hotels, focuses their entire brand message on wellness. And this shows in their guest rooms, gyms, and restaurants.
At many Westin Hotels, you can book a WestinWORKOUT room. These special rooms are available at over 260 Westin locations worldwide, and come equipped with either a treadmill or a stationary bike, a few dumbells, resistance bands, a stability ball, and a set of exercises DVDs.
The WestinWORKOUT rooms are typically $20-$30 more expensive than a similar-sized room, but you’ll get the convenience of being able to exercise in the privacy of your room at any time.
If you would rather exercise outdoors, Westin Hotels also offer the RunWESTIN program. RunWESTIN provides guests with select 3 and 5-mile running routes around the hotel. Certain Westin hotels are also staffed with a Run Concierge who will lead a group run at scheduled times.
If you forget to pack your workout clothes or forget athletic shoes, Westin Hotels will loan you a set of New Balance exercise clothes and shoes for just $5.
And if none of those features interest you, Westin Hotels gyms, named WestinWORKOUT fitness studios, are some of the best around. Most are equipped with standard cardio equipment like treadmills, stationary bikes, and ellipticals. Thirty Westin Hotels around the country are also equipped with the extremely popular Peloton stationary bikes, which allow you to exercise alongside a live cycling class that streams on a 22″ monitor attached to the bike.
WestinWORKOUT fitness studios also have strength training machines and TRX equipment for challenging bodyweight exercises.
Whether in the room, in the gym, or outdoors, Westin Hotels offer great options for folks looking to exercise while on the road.
Keep in the mind, the WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studios and RunWESTIN programs are free of charge to hotel guests. But you’ll have to pay an extra fee to get a WestinWORKOUT room or borrow athletic gear.
EVEN Hotels
EVEN Hotels is the newest of the 10 IHG brands. Similar to Westin, EVEN Hotels focus on wellness by offering a range of in-room, gym, and outdoor fitness options.
Each guestroom is stocked with a number of fitness items that can be used for an in-room workout. And the television includes 10+ channels of workout programs made specifically for the EVEN equipment placed in each room!
Million Mile Secrets contributor Chris recently stayed at an EVEN hotel in New York City and had a great experience.
Each EVEN Hotel also has a gym that is equipped with cardio equipment like treadmills and ellipticals…
…a WaterRower Club…
…dumbells and other strength training machines…
…and Peloton stationary bikes.
For folks who like to exercise with others, certain EVEN hotels also offer group activities like guided runs and spinning classes.
All of these features, including the workout equipment inside every guestroom, are complimentary for all guests staying at an EVEN Hotel!
Fairmont Hotels
Fairmont Hotels, which recently merged with Accor Hotels, also makes the list for its great gym and fitness offerings.
Fairmont Hotels is an upscale hotel chain, and their hotel gyms are no exception. Each hotel has a unique gym that is stocked with quality fitness equipment. In fact, Fairmont Hotel gyms are often better than most folks’ gyms at home!
For example, the Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows has a 40′ X 50′ heated pool, a sauna and steam room, and an indoor / outdoor cardio and weight training area.
Or there is the La Palestra gym inside the Plaza Hotel in New York City. La Palestra is a massive 9,000 square foot fitness facility that includes Olympic weightlifting equipment, strength training machines, climbing ropes, and plenty of cardio equipment.
And at the fitness center at the Fairmont Dallas, in addition to the cardio and weight training equipment, the rooftop pool is perfect for guests who want to exercise in the water.
Fairmont Hotels also offers the Fairmont Fit program. Fairmont Fit provides Reebok workout apparel, footwear, and a yoga mat with stretch band, all delivered to your room upon request. The program is available to all Fairmont President’s Club Members and is free for Premier and Platinium Members.
President’s Club Members can even save their size preferences for shirts, shorts, and shoes in their online profile so the correct gear is ready upon arrival at the hotel!
You won’t have to pay any additional fee to use the gym facilies when staying at a Fairmont Hotel. But other features, like personal training, or the Fairmont Fit program, may be an additional charge.
How to Stay at These Hotels for Free
Westin, EVEN, and Fairmont Hotels all have rewards programs that allow you to earn points towards free nights.
1. Westin Hotels (Starwood)
Westin Hotels are part of Starwood Hotels, and the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty program. You can easily earn Starwood points by applying for cards like the AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest or AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Business cards.
Both cards come with a 25,000 Starwood point sign-up bonus after meeting the minimum spending requirements. Starwood recently announced big changes to their award chart, so be sure to check the number of points required for a free night at your hotel.
2. EVEN Hotels (IHG)
EVEN Hotels are part of the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG). You can earn IHG points by applying for the IHG Rewards Club Select credit card, which currently has a 60,000 IHG point sign-up bonus after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months. Plus, you’ll earn a $50 statement credit after your first purchase.
Or you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to your IHG account if you have Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, Chase Ink Plus (no longer available) or Chase Ink Bold (no longer available). IHG points are generally less valuable than other hotel points, but they do offer great promotions like IHG Accelerate to speed up your earning, and IHG PointsBreaks, where hotels start as low 5,000 points per night.
Fairmont Hotels recently merged with Accor Hotels, so the Fairmont loyalty program is in flux until July 2, 2018, when it will officially merge with the Accor loyalty program, Le Club. Currently, there are no credit cards available to new customers to earn Fairmont points. But if you already have the Chase Fairmont Visa, you can still earn points and redeem for free nights, at least until July 2, 2018. After that, you’ll have to use Accor points for free nights at Fairmont Hotels.
Bottom Line
Staying in shape while traveling can be hard. But the gym and fitness programs at Westin, EVEN, and Fairmont Hotels can make a big difference if you want to stay on track. Whether it’s taking advantage of a group run or using in-room fitness equipment, these hotels make it much easier to exercise and stay fit on the road.
