Take Advantage of Bonus Categories!
1. Chase Freedom

Through December 31, 2016, you can earn 5% cash back (5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points) on up to $1,500 in combined spending with the Chase Freedom card at:
- Department stores (including Kohl’s, Macy’s, and Sears)
- Drugstores
- Wholesale clubs (BJ’s, Costco, and Sam’s Club)
when you register your card.
This means you can earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you buy:
- Candy at a wholesale club
- Costumes at a department store
- Last-minute items, like candy or decorations, at your local drugstore
Just remember to activate these bonus categories by December 14, 2016, to earn the bonus!
Remember, if you have another card, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Chase Ink Plus, you can combine your points and transfer them to travel partners for Big Travel!
2. Discover It

With Discover it Cash Back, you can earn 5% cash back at Amazon, department stores, and Sam’s Club, on up to $1,500 in spending this quarter. The cash back you earn will be matched after your 12th billing cycle, for a total of 10% cash back, if you’re a new cardmember.
That’s good news if you want to earn cash back for a costume on Amazon. You’ll also get a cash back bonus at departments stores and Sam’s Club. So this is a great option for folks who like to earn cash rewards – or prefer to shop on Amazon!
Be sure to activate your bonus before you start shopping if you plan to pay with your Discover It card.
3. Save at Supermarkets

If you purchase your treats from supermarkets, you can earn a bonus there, too!
The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express earns 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets, on up to $6,000 per year; then 1%. So that’s a nice savings, especially if you can combine it with a sale or any coupons you find.
And the AMEX EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card earns 3X AMEX Membership Rewards points at U.S. supermarkets, on up to $6,000 per year. Even better, when you make 30+ purchases in a billing period, you’ll get 50% more points, for a total of 4.5 AMEX Membership Rewards points per $1 spent.
4. Get More for Having Fun, Too!
Many cities have fun Halloween events like “Boo at the Zoo” or Six Flags’ “Fright Fest”.
Citi Prestige Card and the Citi ThankYou Premier Card both earn 2X Citi ThankYou points on entertainment. If you have either card, be sure to use it for your admission to earn more points!
And don’t forget your night out dining and having a good time! 😉 The Chase Sapphire Preferred earns 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points at restaurants. And the Chase Sapphire Reserve earns 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you eat out.
