Via Travel Codex, Starwood and Uber are ending their partnership!
Through December 17, 2017, folks will continue to earn Starwood points for Uber rides at the normal rate. But after that, you’ll no longer earn bonus Starwood points for rides with Uber.
Starwood Uber Partnership Ending Soon
I let you know when Starwood and Uber first teamed up to offer riders bonus Starwood points. And when that partnership was devalued.
Originally, you could earn earn 1 Starwood point for each $1 spent (on up to $10,000 in Uber charges per calendar year). And when you used Uber while staying at a Starwood hotel, you’d earn up to 3 additional Starwood points, depending on your Starwood status.
But earlier this year, the earning rate changed to 1 Starwood point per $2 spent on Uber. And 2 Starwood points per $1 spent on Uber when you use Uber while staying at Starwood hotels.
And now, after 11:59 pm Eastern Time on December 17, 2017, you will no longer earn ANY bonus Starwood points for Uber rides!
That’s bad news for folks who have been using this strategy to earn lots of Starwood points. Which are hard to come by as it is!
Fortunately, you can still earn 2X AMEX Membership Rewards points with Uber when you use qualifying AMEX cards. And because Uber codes as travel, you can earn 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (my favorite kind of points!) when you use your Chase Sapphire Preferred, or 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Bottom Line
Starwood and Uber are parting ways. And you will no longer earn bonus Starwood points for Uber rides after December 17, 2017.
While I don’t think this was a major avenue for earning Starwood points for most folks, it’s sad to see one of the few ways to earn valuable Starwood points disappear!
