My cousin’s wife asked for my advice for the best use of their miles from the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card for her upcoming 30th birthday bash in New York City. Here’s what I told her!
My daughter turned 1 last month, and we had a small family celebration with my cousins who were visiting from out of state.
My cousin Jered and his wife, Jen, used ~30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points that they transferred to Southwest Airlines for their ~$20 flights to visit me in Austin. We went to many of our favorite restaurants, took my dog Mazzy hiking, and went tubing.
While Jered and Jen were visiting, they asked what the best way to redeem 20,000 Capital One miles would be and whether or not it was enough for a hotel in New York City. 20,000 Capital One miles are worth $200 in travel, so they could have used it towards the cost of 1 night at a hotel room. Jen was celebrating her 30th birthday in New York, and wanted to spend a couple nights at a hotel in the city.
I checked my points balances in Award Wallet, and realized I had an IHG Chase Anniversary free night expiring in ~45 days. This was the perfect chance to use it! So I booked 1 night at the Hotel Indigo on the Lower East Side with my free night, and 1 night with 50,000 points. Initially, Jered and Jen were looking for a Friday and Saturday night booking, but opted instead for a Thursday and Friday night due to availability.
As for her Capital One miles, we decided the best way to use her miles for her taxi rides around town, but there’s no wrong way to use Capital One miles! You can also earn 50,000 Capital One miles with the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.
