Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii’s most-visited tourist destination, has finally reopened after the recent eruption of the Kilauea volcano.
For many weeks, the volcanic activity in the area caused eruptions, earthquakes, volcanic ash in the skies, and even destroyed hundreds of nearby homes. And the park was forced to close for 135 days.
But that’s all in the past! So if you’re ready to book that dream trip to Hawaii, getting there cheaply is easy with miles & points!
Although the effects of the Kilauea eruption were devastating, it’s interesting to see the ways in which it changed much of the landscape of the national park.
The tour company KapohoKine Adventures, for example, announced 2 new tours that will take participants to explore the areas in the park that were affected. In particular, the Kilauea caldera widened and now covers more than 1 square mile, according to the US Geological Survey. And there’s a new volcanic crater that’s over 1,000 feet deep!
I don’t know about you, but all of that sounds pretty neat. Plus, the volcano is less likely to erupt again so soon, so I’m sure visiting the area wouldn’t be too risky, right? 😉
