Via View From the Wing, you can earn up to 30% bonus American Airlines miles when you transfer Starwood points to American Airlines miles through October 15, 2017.  That’s in addition to the 25% bonus you already get from transferring Starwood points to airline partners, including American Airlines!

Through October 15, 2017, at 11:59 pm Central Time, you can earn up to an extra 30% bonus when you transfer Starwood points to American Airlines.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You’ll earn a 20% bonus on all Starwood points transferred to American Airlines
  • You’ll earn 10,000 more American Airlines miles for every 100,000 miles received through transfers

You can read the full Terms & Conditions here.

When you transfer Starwood points to American Airlines (or any of their airline partners!) in increments of 20,000, you’ll receive a bonus 5,000 miles.  So you’ll normally get 100,000 American Airlines miles by transferring 80,000 Starwood points to American Airlines (80,000 Starwood points + 25% bonus).

But with this promotion, you’ll get lots more!

For example, by transferring 80,000 Starwood points, you’ll earn a total of 130,000 American Airlines miles (80,000 Starwood points + standard 25% bonus + 20% promotion bonus + 10,000 American Airlines miles for depositing 100,000 American Airlines miles).

Is This Promotion a Good Deal?

This is excellent for folks who have a specific use in mind for their American Airlines miles!

For example, if you transfer 80,000 Starwood points to American Airlines, you’ll have more than enough miles to fly round-trip in Business Class from the US to Japan.  Or if you transfer 20,000 Starwood points to American Airlines, you’ll have enough for a one-way coach award flight to Europe.  That costs 30,000 American Airlines miles.

Fly to Frankfurt for Transferring Just 20,000 Starwood Points to American Airlines

You can use American Airlines miles to fly on partner airlines, like British AirwaysFinnair, and Qantas.  But keep in mind, it takes ~7 to 10 days for the miles to appear in your American Airlines account.  So do NOT make the transfer if you need the miles immediately!

Note:   Do NOT transfer more than 60,000 Starwood points in any 24-hour period.  Because you can only transfer 79,999 Starwood points to American Airlines each day.  Instead transfer 60,000 points one day, and 20,000 points the next, so you can get the 5,000 mile bonus on all four 20,000 point transfers!

What’s the point of having AA miles if you can’t redeem them. Availability is aweful.

Is there a way to transfer any of them back to Starwood?
