American Airlines Miles Can Take You Just About Anywhere – Like Way Down South to Patagonia

1.   Citi American Airlines Platinum Select

Our Review:   Even If You NEVER Fly American Airlines, You Might Consider This 50,000-Mile Card Bonus!

You have just 1 day left to earn 50,000 American Airlines miles after you open the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select and spend $2,500 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account.  That’s enough for 2 round-trip coach flights to anywhere in the continental US.

Is the Grand Canyon on Your To-Do List?  You and a Travel Buddy Can Visit for Practically Free With This Sign-Up Bonus

This isn’t the highest bonus we’ve seen for this card (the previous bonus was 60,000 miles).  But we do know Citi is making changes to this bonus tomorrow.  So you should apply now if you like what you see!

The card comes with benefits like:

  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent on American Airlines purchases, at gas stations, and at restaurants
  • Preferred boarding
  • Free first checked bag on domestic flights
  • NO foreign transaction fees

I have this card, and keep it simply because I fly on American Airlines often enough that the free first checked bag more than offsets the annual fee each year.

And big spenders can earn a $100 American Airlines flight discount after spending $20,000 or more in purchases during your card year and renewing your card.

The $99 annual fee IS waived the first year.  So you can try the card for free for 11 months before you shell out any money.  Read our review of the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select here!

2.   Citi American Airlines Executive

Apply Here:   Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard®

Our Review:   Start Planning a Vacation!  This Card’s Sign-Up Bonus Is Enough for 3 Round-Trip Coach Tickets Within the US, a Business Class Ticket to the Caribbean or Mexico, and More!

Through Thursday, October 18, 2018, the sign-up bonus on the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard® is an increased 75,000 American Airlines miles after you spend $7,500 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.

That’s the BIGGEST sign-up bonus any American Airlines card is offering right now.  And it’s more than enough for a one-way Business Class ticket from the US to Thailand!  Which could easily cost you $2,500+ otherwise.

You’ll Spend 70,000 American Airlines Miles for a One-Way Flight to Thailand in a Lie-Flat Seat

The $450 annual fee is nothing to sneeze at.  But if you can make the most of the card’s perks, this is a fantastic deal.

For example, the card comes with an Admirals Club membership (worth up to $550), which gives you access to fancy American Airlines airport lounges.  You can bring 2 guests, or immediate family members.  Plus, you can add up to 10 authorized users for FREE, and they’ll also get an Admirals Club membership with guest privileges!  That’s amazing.

You’ll even receive up to $100 in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credits every 5 years.  That makes your airport security experience much less cumbersome.  And enrolling in TSA PreCheck is super easy.  Lots of folks can simply run to their local Staples!

The card also comes with:

  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent with American Airlines
  • 1 American Airlines mile per $1 you spend on everything else
  • 10,000 elite-qualifying miles if you spend $40,000 or more on the card in a calendar year
  • NO foreign transaction fees

You can read our full review of the Citi American Airlines Executive here.

Note:   Citi will NOT let you earn the sign-up bonus from more than one personal card of the same “brand” within 24 months (with a couple of exceptions).  So you won’t be able to open BOTH of these cards.  You can read more about Citi’s application rules here.

If you’re not interested in paying an annual fee but still want American Airlines miles, you should give the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp℠ Card a try!  It’s got NO annual fee, and comes with 10,000 American Airlines miles and a $50 statement credit after making $500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.  You literally have nothing to lose by giving it a shot!  Check out our review of the Citi American Airlines MileUp.

Bottom Line

You have until tomorrow, October 16, 2018, to open the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select and earn 50,000 American Airlines miles after spending $2,500 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

And you have until Thursday, October 18, 2018, to open the Citi American Airlines Executive and earn 75,000 American Airlines miles after spending $7,500 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

Both these bonuses can give you hundreds and hundreds in free flights.  Let us know if you grab these cards before the bonuses change!
