Instagram and Facebook seem to be THE go-to social media platforms for most people these days. But TripAdvisor is looking to change that, especially when it comes to those in the travel community. And they plan on unveiling a redesign of their site before the end of 2018.
With the new site, TripAdvisor is aiming to have folks use it as a social media site rather than just a place for reviews and bookings. Much like Facebook, you’ll be able to create a personal profile page, post photos and videos, follow others (friends, brands, etc.), and get personalized travel advice from other users.
TripAdvisor’s CEO and co-founder, Stephen Kaufer, wants TripAdvisor to be a “one size fits all solution” where travelers can get all the advice they need in one place. He sites that 66% of consumers count on reviews to help make travel decisions.
According to TripAdvisor, they currently have more than 500 brands, publishers, travel partners, and social media influencers (including the likes of National Geographic and GoPro) signed up for the beta test of the new site.
But I’m left wondering how TripAdvisor will convince current Facebook and Instagram users to switch to their new social media platform. That seems like an uphill battle!
What do you think about it? I personally love the concept of a one-stop-shop for all things travel related, but I’m still wary of whether TripAdvisor will be able to realize this idea.
