You Can Save on Avis Car Rentals

The Daily Getaways website will have a new deal every weekday at 1:00 pm Eastern Time from May 19, 2014, until June 20, 2014.

However, you have to be quick to get in on these deals because they sell out within minutes!

And you’ll save an additional 10% if you use your American Express card.  This includes cards like the The Platinum Card from American Express or business card, the Starwood hotel personal or business card, or the Delta personal or business card.

Note:  American Express gift cards aren’t eligible for the 10% discount, but some folks have reported Bluebird cards are eligible.

Is Prepaying $33 for a 1-day Avis Rental a Good Deal?

You can buy a discounted 1-day Avis car rental certificate valid on any car class up to a a Premium car.

You can use the certificate at any participating Avis location in:

You have to use your 1-day certificate by July 15, 2015.  And you need to make a reservation 24 hours in advance.

This could be a good deal depending on the car type and your travel dates.

1.   Austin

A 1-day rental on August 29, 2014 at the Austin Airport costs ~$114, you’d pay ~$81 more (~$114 cost on Avis website – $33 Daily Getaway cost).

Buying an Avis 1-Day Certificate Saves You $81

The Hotwire rate via Kayak is cheaper than the rate through the Avis website and almost the same price as the certificate.  Even if you booked through Hotwire, buying a certificate saves you ~$1 (~$34 cash price – $33 certificate cost).  But you commit yourself to sitting in front of your computer trying to buy a certificate.  That’s not worth $1 of my time!

You Might Find Cheaper Rates From Hotwire

2.   Kauai

A 1-day rental on August 2, 2014 at the Kauai Airport costs ~$39, you’d pay ~$6 more (~$39 cost on Avis website – $33 Daily Getaway cost).

You Can Save a Little Money Renting in Kauai

The Kayak rate is cheaper than the rate through the Avis website.  You’d save $8 paying cash (~$25 cash cost – $33 certificate cost).

So you might be better off paying cash with cheap car rentals or by using your Barclays Arrival card and getting 2.2% cash back.

Or you can use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to save money on car rentals!

2.   Avis Chairman’s Club Membership for $1,115 (~$1,004 With AMEX Card)

You Can Buy an Avis Chairman’s Club Membership for $1,115

You can buy an Avis Chairman’s Club Membership for $1,115 (~$1,004 With AMEX Card) valid through July 31, 2015.

An Avis Chairman’s Club membership gets you:

If you rent cars often, this could be worth it to you.  Emily and I only rent when we travel, a few times a year, so buying an Avis Chairman’s Club membership isn’t worth it to us.  But you should do the math to see if it’s worth it to you.

You’ll also get Emerald Club Executive Elite benefits from National because they’ll match your status.

Bottom Line

You can buy discounted certificates for Avis car rentals and Avis Chairman’s Club Membership through Daily Getaways at 1:00 pm EST.

You could save money buying the discounted Avis 1-day certificates depending on the car type and your travel dates.

It’s not worth it to me to buy an Avis Chairman’s Club membership, but it could be worth it to you, if you rent a lot of cars.

But be sure to do the math to see if buying 1-day car rental certificates and Avis Chairman’s Club Membership makes sense for you.
