Update: One or more card offers in this post are no longer available. Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.
Last week I told you how to get increased sign-up bonuses for both Chase Southwest personal credit cards, though I speculated one of the offers was targeted.
The good news is, both increased offers are now public!
When you open the Chase Southwest Plus or Chase Southwest Premier personal cards, you’ll earn 50,000 Southwest points after meeting minimum spending requirements.
This means earning the Southwest Companion Pass is easier for everyone. I’ll show you why!

With the Southwest Companion Pass, you can bring a travel buddy with you for nearly free on Southwest paid and award tickets for up to 2 years!
Emily and I consider the Southwest Companion Pass to be the best deal in travel. Because it can easily save you thousands of dollars, depending on how often you travel. But you’ll need to earn 110,000 qualifying Southwest points in a calendar year to earn it.
The great new is, earning the Companion Pass is easy with these improved Chase Southwest credit card offers!
You’ll now earn 50,000 Southwest points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening either the Chase Southwest Plus or Chase Southwest Premier card.
And because the increased 60,000 Southwest point bonus on the Chase Southwest Premier small business card is still available, you can earn the Companion Pass by applying for just 2 cards!
Here’s what you can expect with these cards:
Southwest Premier Card | Southwest Premier Business Card | Southwest Plus Card | Southwest Priority Card | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Spending | • 2X Southwest points with Southwest and Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases • 1X Southwest points on all other purchases | • 2X Southwest points with Southwest and Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases • 1X Southwest points on all other purchases | • 2X Southwest points with Southwest and Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases • 1X Southwest points on all other purchases | • 2X points per $1 spent on Southwest purchases and Rapid Rewards car and hotel purchases • 1X points per $1 on all other purchases |
Anniversary Points | 6,000 | 6,000 | 3,000 | 7,500 |
Foreign Transaction Fees | None | None | 3% | None |
Annual Fee | $99 | $99 | $69 | $149 |
The annual fees are NOT waived the first year. But now is a great time to earn the Companion Pass.
I typically recommend folks earn the Companion Pass as early in the year as possible. Because the it’s valid through the last day in the following year in which it’s earned. So earning the pass early in the year means you can take advantage of the BEST deal in travel for nearly 2 full years!
Note: If you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for these Southwest cards.
Bottom Line
The Chase Southwest Plus and Chase Southwest Premier cards now come with 50,000 Southwest points after spending $2,000 on purchases within 3 months of account opening!
By opening 1 of these cards, along with earning the increased 60,000 Southwest point bonus on the Chase Southwest Premier small business card, you’ll have more than enough points to qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass. And Emily and I consider the Companion Pass to be the best deal in travel!
