After signing-up for this deal, you’ll earn 200 bonus United Airlines miles after your first transaction at BP. And then you’ll earn between 1 and 3 United Airlines miles per gallon!
I always love hearing about new ways to earn and use miles & points. This is also an easy way to keep your United Airlines miles from expiring!
I’ll tell you what you need to know about this new partnership.
Earn United Airlines Miles for Gas at BP
United Airlines and BP have teamed up to give folks travel rewards on their gas purchases. Just enroll in the BP Driver Rewards program here, and select United Airlines MileagePlus as your earning preference!
Here are the details:
- Earn a bonus of 200 United Airlines miles for choosing United Airlines miles as your earning preference and purchasing fuel at BP (limit 1 bonus per account)
- Earn 1 United Airlines mile per gallon of regular or mid-grade fuel
- Earn a total of 2 United Airlines miles per gallon when you also link a form of payment to your account
- Earn a total of 3 United Airlines miles per gallon when you also buy premium grade fuel
- You will earn bonus miles on up to 20 gallons per transaction
- NOT valid with other offers earning or redeeming cents off per gallon
If you already have a Driver Rewards account, you’re still eligible for the 200 United Airlines miles bonus when you switch your earning rate to United Airlines miles. And BP will let you convert your existing cents per gallon balance to United Airlines miles. Though they don’t specify the conversion rate.
You can only make this conversion once. And it is non-reversible.
Redeem United Airlines Miles for Gas at BP
You can also use United Airlines miles to buy gas at BP. But I do NOT recommend this, because the value you’ll receive per mile is very poor.
You’ll spend 60 United Airlines miles to receive 50 cents off each gallon, on up to 20 gallons per transaction. That means you’ll get a value of just 0.83 cents per mile (50 cents / 60 United Airlines miles).
And you’ll get a lot more value if you use your United Airlines miles for travel instead! For example, a round-trip coach flight from Boise to Miami costs ~$370. But you can use 25,000 United Airlines miles for the same flight! That’s a value of 1.48 cents per mile ($370 / 25,000 United Airlines miles).
If you do decide to redeem your miles at BP, you’ll need at least 1,200 United Airlines miles in your account. And you must have an eligible form of payment linked to your Driver Rewards account. Then use your linked form of payment to pay for your fuel.
You can earn up to 3 United Airlines miles per gallon of fuel at BP gas stations when you sign-up for their Driver Rewards program! Plus a one-time 200 United Airlines miles bonus for switching your earning preference to United Airlines miles.
This isn’t a groundbreaking amount of bonus miles. And it’s NOT worth spending more money on fuel if you can find it cheaper at a different gas station. But I always welcome new ways to earn and redeem miles & points.
