Once you earn this targeted bonus, you’d have enough points for 3 to 4 round-trip flights to Hawaii!

Targeted AMEX Platinum 100,000 AMEX Membership Rewards Point Bonus

See if you’re targeted for this offer here

I wasn’t eligible for the targeted 100,000-point bonus for the AMEX Platinum card.  But if you were, here’s a reminder of what the card comes with:

  • 5X AMEX Membership Rewards points on airline tickets purchased directly with airlines or with American Express Travel, and on prepaid hotels booked on the AMEX Travel Portal
  • $200 annual airline incidental fee credit on your selected airline
  • Up to $200 in Uber credit per year
  • Up to $100 credit for Saks Fifth Avenue
  • Gold Elite status with Hilton & Marriott
  • Statement credit every 4 years after you apply for Global Entry ($100) or TSA PreCheck ($85)
  • Amazing airport lounge access
  • Terms apply

The $550 annual fee is NOT waived the first year (See Rates & Fees).  But you can easily offset it with the card’s perks!

Jump on This Deal If You’re Targeted!

AMEX only lets you earn the welcome bonus on each card once per lifetime.  So you should always make sure you’re getting the biggest welcome bonus possible.  It’s your only chance!

I’ve never seen a higher welcome bonus for this card.  And you can do a LOT with 100,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points, like transfer them to valuable airline partners!

You could transfer those points to British Airways and book 4 round-trip flights from the West Coast to Hawaii.  And you can book round-trip flights to Hawaii from anywhere on the mainland US on United Airlines using only 35,000 Singapore Airlines miles (a 1:1 AMEX transfer partner).  So once you include the 5,000+ AMEX points you’d earn from the minimum spending requirement, you have nearly enough for 3 round-trip flights from anywhere in the US to Hawaii!

You can even book flights to Hawaii on Alaska Airlines from the West Coast for only 24,000 Singapore Airlines miles round-trip.  Meaning you’d have enough points for 4 tickets!  So you’ve got some options.

If you want to go someplace more exotic, you can transfer 50,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points to ANA for a round-trip coach ticket between the US and Japan during the regular season and only 40,000 points during the low season!

100,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points are enough for 2 round-trip flights to Japan

You could even turn the bonus into a round-trip Business Class flight to Europe, because you can book non-stop Delta Business Class flights from the US to Europe for 50,000 Virgin Atlantic miles one-way.  And because you’re flying on Delta, you can skip the London connection and avoid those massive taxes and fees.

Note:   You’ll pay an excise fee of 0.06 cents per point, to a maximum of $99, when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to US airlines, like Delta or JetBlue.

Bottom Line

If you’re targeted, you can earn 100,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after opening the AMEX Platinum card and spending $5,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.  I’ve never seen a higher bonus for this card!

If you are NOT targeted, the AMEX Platinum 60,000 point public offer (after spending $5,000 in the first three months) is still an excellent deal.  But you should use the CardMatch tool to make sure you don’t qualify for a higher bonus.  You won’t get a credit inquiry unless you apply for the card.

My wife gets targeted 100k mailers every time this promo is available, but doesn’t travel enough to really use the perks and benefits to offset the fee. Has anyone had any luck calling Amex and getting the same targeted 100k if I applied instead. Same last name, address, etc

Hi Ben!

I’ve heard of instances where people have called to ask about any special offers available on their account. It’s rare, but some people have reported success of being eligible for certain special offers even though they never received any mail or email promotions.

So it’s definitely worth a shot! Who knows, maybe you were targeted but your invitation just got lost in the mail. 🙂

I had rough experience with Amex where they initially offer me but at the time of fulfilling thier promise they denied without giving any reason. I am trying hard to get a reason as I understand that I followed thier policies very strictly. I assume that they deny for no reason on thier wish.

This happened to me–got an offer, then they denied it but wouldn’t give me a reason. And months later, those MR points randomly appeared in my account.

My wife is targeted for the 100,000 bonus! However……. I already have the Amex Platinum (got it 3 years ago with a 100,000 bonus) and she is an authorized user on my account. I don’t know if I want to drop her as an authorized user and have her get her own account since we would just cancel the account after a year and make her a user on mine again.

Definitely not in the market to get myself wrapped up in a review with Amex… but it is a good chunk of points.

Decisions, decisions…
