Tired of missing out on all those award sales Delta releases to fun destinations?  Then get yourself a whole stockpile of Delta miles now so you’ll be ready for the next one!

Delta publishes flash sales (often only good for a few days) to fun areas both in the US and abroad.  You can follow our Delta award sale page to stay current with the deals.

When one of these promos pops up, you won’t have enough time to open a Delta credit card and earn the welcome bonus before the sale ends.  You’ll already need them in your back pocket.

We Often See Super Cheap Delta Award Sales to Places Like Tokyo

Here’s what to do so you can jump on the next great Delta award sale!

Get Ready for Cheap Delta Award Flights!

Delta’s been running lots of excellent award sales lately.  For example, we’ve recently seen round-trip coach flights between:

  • Boston and Tampa for 12,000 Delta miles
  • New York and Zurich for 24,000 Delta miles
  • Los Angeles and Tokyo for 54,000 Delta miles
  • Atlanta and Bermuda for 36,000 Delta miles

I live near Cincinnati, one of Delta’s hubs, and have frequently seen round-trip flights to Paris for 40,000 Delta miles with these flash deals.  That’s hard to beat!

These sales can be one of the best ways to reach your destination, IF you’re flexible.  There are often lots of unavailable travel dates.  But even if Delta isn’t flying to the particular city you’re interested in visiting, it’s a cheap way to cross an ocean!  You can buy a budget ticket and hop to your actual vacation spot later.

Even if you don’t fly Delta often, you can still use Delta miles for flights on partner airlines, like Air France, Aeromexico, and China Eastern.  So you can go just about anywhere!

How Do You Rack Up the Delta Miles?

1.   Open Delta Credit Cards

AMEX only allows folks to earn the into bonus once per person, per lifetime, on ALL their cards.  So it’s important to apply for AMEX cards when the welcome bonuses are at their highest.

Because each of the Delta cards is considered a different product, you’re eligible for 4 separate welcome bonuses!

Credit Card Sign-Up Bonus
Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express30,000 Delta mile welcome bonus after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Terms apply.
Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express30,000 Delta mile welcome bonus after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Terms apply.
Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express35,000 Delta miles and 5,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles when you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Terms apply.

Note:   AMEX small business cards don’t appear on your personal credit report.  So opening those cards won’t affect your chances of earning valuable Chase cards later on!

2.   Transfer AMEX Membership Rewards to Delta

If you have a stash of AMEX Membership Rewards points, you can transfer those to Delta instantly at a 1:1 ratio.  Here are the cards that earn transferable AMEX Membership Rewards points.

Bottom Line

I’ve been there.  An unbelievable deal pops up and I don’t have enough miles to book it.

From the sales we’ve seen in the past, opening 1 card can be enough for 2 round-trip flights to Europe!

This is nice window dressing, until you start doing business with Amex. Worst company ever. Don’t waste your time. Chase Sapphire and CO Venture are the best cards out there.
