Starwood and Marriott Summer Promotions 2017

Just in time for your summer vacation planning, Starwood, Marriott, and Ritz-Carlton have announced their latest promotions!

Remember, you can transfer Starwood points and Marriott points between accounts at a ratio of 1:3 (1 Starwood point = 3 Marriott points).  So if you earn 4,000 bonus Marriott points, it’s the same as earning 1,333 Starwood points.

Note:   Ritz-Carlton and Marriott points are essentially the same thing, just marketed differently.

Here’s what you can expect from the latest promotions!

1.   Starwood “SPG Take Three”

With Starwood’s SPG Take Three promotion, you’ll earn:

2.   Marriott “MegaBonus Infinite Points”

With Marriott’s MegaBonus Infinite Points promotion, you’ll earn:

Because You Earn Bonus Points per Stay (NOT per Night), You’ll Get More Value If You Stay Fewer Nights With Each Stay

3.   Ritz-Carlton “Summer Sojourns”

With Ritz-Carlton’s Summer Sojourns promotion, you’ll earn:

Are These Promotions Worthwhile?

If you have stays planned at Starwood, Marriott, or Ritz-Carlton, it’s a no-brainer to register for these promotions!  But none of the offers are spectacular.

That said, there aren’t many great hotel promotions right now.  So if you prefer another hotel chain, I’d stick with their promotion instead of switching.

The one exception might be the current IHG Accelerate promotion, where you can sign-up and receive a customized offer with a number of tasks to complete to earn bonus IHG points.  Some folks have received offers for 60,000+ IHG points!

Other hotel promotions include 1,000 bonus American Airlines miles per stay with Best Western, and 8,000 Choice points (redeemable for a $50 gift card) for every 2 stays.

Note:   Starwood currently has an elite status challenge to help you earn status faster.  If you’re taking advantage of this challenge, the current SPG Take Three promotion is a nice addition!

There are plenty of ways to earn Marriott and Starwood points.  For example, the Chase Marriott Premier personal and small business cards come with an 80,000 Marriott point sign-up bonus after meeting minimum spending requirements.

Or consider the AMEX Starwood personal and small business cards to earn 25,000 Starwood points after meeting minimum spending requirements.

Note:   Remember each bank’s application rules.  Chase will not approve you for most cards if you’ve opened for 5+ cards from ANY bank (except certain business cards) in the past 24 months.

And AMEX will only give you the sign-up bonus on each of their cards ONCE.  So if you’ve had the AMEX Starwood cards before, you won’t get the bonus again.

Bottom Line

As the Marriott Starwood merger continues to develop, Marriott has been giving the Starwood promotions similar promotion periods and registration deadlines.

This summer, you’ll earn:

If you’re staying at these hotel chains this summer anyway, you should definitely register!  But these promotions are probably not enough to make you switch your hotel stays from another promotion.

What do you think about these upcoming promotions?
