Southwest has just extended their flight schedule and you can now book flights through June 8, 2019.
Even if you aren’t absolutely sure of your travel plans, it can definitely make sense to book Southwest flights in advance because they don’t charge cancellation or change fees. If one of the frequent Southwest fare sales pops up with a better deal to your destination, you can cancel and re-book at the lower price for free!
Previously, you could only book flights through April 7, 2019. But now you can book your end-of-school and summer travel!
If you’re looking for Southwest points, you’ll want to consider opening a Southwest credit card. That’s because the sign-up bonus you earn with a Southwest credit card will count toward earning a Southwest Companion Pass! With it, you can get nearly 2-for-1 travel for up to 2 years!
Just remember, Chase has tightened the restrictions on the Southwest cards. So if you currently have a personal Southwest card, you can’t get a second personal Southwest card. But you can still qualify for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card. And it’s probably easier than you think to qualify for a small business card.
You could also consider transferring flexible points like Chase Ultimate Rewards or Marriott points to Southwest. They transfer at a 1:1 ratio from Chase Ultimate Rewards. Or you can transfer Marriott points to Southwest at a 3:1 ratio. Plus, you’ll get a 5,000 Southwest point bonus if you transfer 60,000 Marriott points! So 60,000 Marriott points will end up being converted to 25,000 Southwest points.
