Good news!  Southwest just released another sale, and you can book Southwest flights for just $39 or 1,657 Southwest points one-way!

There are also other, more expensive routes that are great deals too.  Like a one-way flight from Atlanta to San Antonio for just $94 (or 5,341 Southwest points).

But you’ll need to book by May 5, 2017, for travel between May 16, 2017, and June 14, 2017, or between August 22, 2017, and November 1, 2017.  Eligible travel dates vary by route.

Southwest is having another sale!  Fares start at $39 one-way.  But most fares are higher.

For example, you can fly one-way from Seattle to Phoenix from $97, to Denver for $143, or to St. Louis for only $160.

Tickets must be purchased by May 5, 2017.  Here are the details:

  • If you are traveling within the US, you can get these deals between May 16 and June 14, 2017, or August 22, 2017 and November 1, 2017
  • If you are traveling to or from San Juan, Puerto Rico, you can get these deals between September 6, 2017, and November 2, 2017
  • You must book at least 21 days in advance of your travel
  • Tickets are non-refundable

Note:   There are blackout dates on certain routes, so make sure you take a look at your travel dates before you book!

If you have already booked Southwest flights, check this sale to make sure your flights aren’t available for cheaper.  If they are, just cancel your Southwest flight for free and re-book with the better price.

We Love Southwest!

Emily and I like Southwest sales because when the cash price of a ticket goes down, award ticket prices go down, too.  Because Southwest bases award prices off the cash price.

Every passenger also gets 2 free checked bags.  And that can save you a lot of money!

Plus, if you have the Southwest Companion Pass, a friend or family member flies with you for free for up to 2 years!  This is an amazing deal and it’s the reason why Emily and I fly Southwest almost exclusively on domestic flights.  You can earn the Companion Pass in 8 easy steps!

Need More Southwest Points?

Remember, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio to Southwest if you have the:

So it’s easy to top-off your account if you need more points for an award flight!  Just remember, points transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Southwest do NOT count toward the Companion Pass.

But the points you earn from Chase’s 3 Southwest co-branded credit cards DO count towards the Southwest Companion Pass.  These cards include the:

Note:   If you’ve applied for 5+ credit cards in the past 24 months, you will likely NOT be approved for any of these Chase cards.

Hotel Information

If you book a sale flight, remember there are lots of ways to get cheap or free hotel rooms with points from credit card bonuses and spending.

To find hotels that can be booked with points, I use Hotel Hustle (which even shows you if rooms are actually available!) or AwardMapper.

Remember, you can transfer flexible points like Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Rewards to different hotel programs.

Note:  If you prefer to book paid stays, check out discount sites like Orbitz, Expedia, or TravelPony for deals.  But remember you won’t get stay credits or points (and might not have your elite status recognized!).

FYI your “Here’s my review of the card” links on the Amex Gold Cards are swapped/mismatched. No biggie!

Thanks for the catch! It’s been fixed. 🙂
