Great news, Southwest zealots!!  Earning the best deal in travel just got easier.

All 3 Southwest personal credit cards are getting a sign-up bonus boost.  Now, you’ll earn up to 60,000 Southwest points after meeting tiered spending requirements.

Southwest points are generally worth ~1.5 cents each toward travel.  So 60,000 Southwest points are worth ~$900 in Southwest flights!

Chase Southwest Cards Now With Increased Bonuses

When you apply for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit CardSouthwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card, or Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card, you’ll have the opportunity to earn up to 60,000 Southwest points after meeting tiered minimum spending requirements:

  • 40,000 Southwest points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening
  • 20,000 additional Southwest points after spending $12,000 on purchases in the first year

The previous bonus for these cards was 40,000 points after meeting minimum spending.  So the opportunity to earn an extra 20,000 points is awesome!  Just note that the spending required to achieve the full bonus is quite high.

If you’re concerned you can’t spend enough, check out this helpful guide to meeting minimum spending requirements.  You’ll realize how many expenses you can actually put on a credit card!

These increased deals are extra enticing because it allows you to earn the holy grail of travel, the Southwest Companion Pass, more easily.  When you have the Southwest Companion Pass, you can bring a friend or family member with you for just the cost of taxes & fees!  It doesn’t matter if your flight is booked with points or paid for with cash – your companion flies free.  That means your points are worth effectively twice as much!

You can use this perk over and over, as often as you fly Southwest.  Check out our Southwest Companion Pass guide here.

To earn the Southwest Companion Pass, you’ll need to earn 110,000 Southwest points in a calendar year.  The quickest and simplest method to do this is by opening 1 personal card along with the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card when sign-up bonuses are 50,000 points or higher.  That way you’ll earn almost all (if not all!) 110,000 points you need for the Southwest Companion Pass.

Note:   You can only hold 1 Southwest personal credit card at a time.  So if you’ve opened a Southwest card in the past and the account is still open, you won’t be eligible to open another Southwest personal card.

Let us know if you jump on any of these deals!

“If you’re concerned you can’t spend enough” – I’ll never understand why people who are new to this game are concerned about it. I’d be willing to bet people who say they don’t think they can spend enough to earn the signup bonus use their debit cards every day without blinking an eye. Just throw the debit card away!
