Terrific news if you’ve had your eye on earning the Southwest Companion Pass!

Via Reddit, you’ll now earn 60,000 Southwest points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card or Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card cards.

Previously, the sign-up bonus was 40,000 Southwest points after meeting minimum spending requirements.  So this is a much better deal!

Plus, the increased 60,000 Southwest point bonus on the Chase Southwest Premier (small business) card is still active.  By applying for 1 personal and 1 small business card, you’ll earn more than enough points to qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass!

Emily and I consider the Southwest Companion Pass to be the best deal in travel.

With the Southwest Companion Pass, a friend or family member can travel with you for almost free on paid and award ticket for up to 2 years!

To qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass, you’ll need to earn 110,000 qualifying Southwest points in a calendar year.

With the limited-time improved offers for the Chase Southwest Premier Personal or Chase Southwest Plus cards, you’ll earn 60,000 Southwest points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.

And with the Chase Southwest Premier Small Business Card, you’ll earn 60,000 Southwest points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.

The annual fee ($99 for the Premier cards, $69 for the Plus) is NOT waived the first year.

These improved offers on the Chase Southwest cards make it easy to earn the Companion Pass by applying for 2 cards!  With 1 personal and 1 small business card, you’ll have more than enough points to qualify.

Here are the main differences between the 3 cards:

• 1X Southwest points on all other purchases
• 2X Southwest points with Southwest and Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases

• 1X Southwest points on all other purchases

Annual Fee$99$99$69

Note:   If you’ve opened 5 or more credit cards (from any bank) in the past 24 months (except these business cards), it’s very unlikely you’ll be approved for any Southwest cards.

Bottom Line

The Chase Southwest Premier (personal) and Chase Southwest Plus are now offering 60,000 Southwest points after meeting minimum spending requirements!

This matches the increased 60,000 Southwest point bonus on the Chase Southwest Premier (small business) card.

By earning the bonus from 1 personal and 1 small business card, you’ll have more than the 110,000 Southwest points required in a calendar year to earn the Southwest Companion Pass.  It’s still the best deal in travel!

I am 1 1/2 years into southwest companion pass. Working on year 3. It seems impossible!! I’m at just less that half of what I need in the way of spending for the year. Can I add another personal card to my account and do the minimum spending on the new card and receive the bonus points to achieve enough points to qualify for 3rd year companion pass?

I just got my Southwest Chase card. How do I get the 60,000 points?
The card was for 40,000 points>

I received my Southwest Premier and Plus cards a few days ago. I know my statement closing dates are the 16th and 20th. I will have met my minimum spending limit of $2,000 on each before those dates. Do you know how soon I will get the companion pass once the statement closes? I’m looking to book a flight asap.

Thank you!

Its says “Now is a good time to get a companion pass”. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t best to get this card early in the year to take advantage of almost 2 years of use.?

I have never redeemed starpoints yet to this point…. I’m learning how to and since I am close to lifetime Platinum status with Marriott, I’m sure I will in the future. They will be joining the programs in full by 2019 now at this point and am hoping the options will be more plentiful at this point, Thanks for all your help in directing us travelers to try and get the most for all options…. All the best….
