This is an exciting contest, not just for 60,000 free Southwest points, but because the points you win will count toward earning a Southwest Companion Pass! And they won’t post to your account until January 2019 (check out our guide to the Southwest Companion Pass to see why that’s a big deal).
The Points Guy and Chase are giving 12 lucky winners 60,000 Southwest points each day for 12 days from December 13 to December 24, 2018. To enter that day’s giveaway, you’ll have to complete a task. You can see what those are and enter here.
If you’re one of the lucky winners, you can easily pick up the rest of the Southwest points you’d need to earn a Southwest Companion by opening anyone of the 4 Chase Southwest credit cards because they all currently have increased 60,000 point sign-up bonuses.
How to Earn a Southwest Companion Pass, Even If You Don’t Win 60,000 Southwest Points
To earn a Southwest Companion Pass, you need to accumulate 110,000 Southwest points, or fly 100 qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year. Once you have the Companion Pass, you can bring your designated companion on any flight you take (cash or points booking) for just the cost of taxes & fees!
Here’s the best part – when you earn the pass, you’ll get to use it for the rest of that calendar year and all of the following calendar year. So if you earn it in January 2019, it will be valid until December 2020! That’s a heck of a lot of nearly 2-for-1 flights!
Even though The Points Guy and Chase are giving away over 8 million Southwest points, the chances of you winning are probably small. But you can earn yourself a Southwest Companion Pass by opening 2 credit cards because they all currently come with a 60,000 Southwest point bonus after meeting the minimum spending requirements.
You can no longer have more than 1 personal Southwest credit card, so you’ll need to open the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card, plus any one of the following:
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card
You might not run a full-time business, but you can still qualify for a business card even if you’ve got a part-time or freelance gig. And you can use your Social Security Number as your business tax ID and your name as your business name on your application. Read more about qualifying for a business credit card.
You can find the terms and rules of the contest here. Let us know if you’re one of the winners!
