Travel With Grant has spotted a few improvements noted on his latest American Express statement! We don’t yet know if these changes are for all AMEX cards, or just a select few. But here’s what we do know!
1. Extended Warranty
Starting August 1, 2018, AMEX is making their extended warranty policy a little more generous. Here’s what you can expect:
- AMEX will match the length of your manufacturer warranty if it is less than 2 years (120 day warranty will extend to a 240 day warranty)
- AMEX will add 2 years to a manufacturer warranty that is between 2 and 5 years
The maximum coverage AMEX currently gives folks is 1 year. So 2 years is a nice improvement! You’ll get coverage for up to $10,000 per claim, up to $50,000 per year, per AMEX card.
You’ll also get 120 days to file your claim (up from 90 days). It sounds like this change will cover purchases you’ve already made, as well. As long as you submit the claim after August 1, 2018.
2. Purchase Protection
Also beginning August 1, 2018, AMEX is extending the purchase protection window from 90 days to 120 days. So you’re covered for an extra 30 days from the date you purchase an item in the event it gets damaged or stolen.
Most cards cover you for up to $1,000 per claim, and up to $50,000 per year, per AMEX card. Though some AMEX cards, like The Platinum Card® from American Express, cover you for up to $10,000 per claim.
Folks living in New York, Indiana, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Northern Mariana Islands will NOT get this improved extended warranty or purchase protection.
3. Cash Back Redemption Improves for Some Cards
We don’t know at the moment which cards this improvement spans, but AMEX is allowing folks to redeem cash back with their AMEX cards in any amount, as long as you’re redeeming at least $25.
AMEX used to allow you to redeem cash back only in increments of $25. But you can now redeem for $25.01 if you like!
This isn’t a huge change, but it’s nice to see AMEX giving us more options and flexibility for redeeming the rewards you earn with their cards.
I haven’t received my statement yet, so I don’t know if these changes are for all AMEX cards. Let me know if you’ve seen these improvements on your latest AMEX statement!
