Qantas is targeting some loyalty program members to earn up to a 40% bonus for transferring credit card points to Qantas, so check your email!

What makes this offer even more enticing for anyone with a Citi ThankYou points earning card, like the Citi Premier℠ Card, is that it stacks with the current Citi ThankYou points to Qantas points 25% transfer bonus.  If you can take advantage of both of these deals, it’ll cost just 35,000 Citi ThankYou points for a one-way Business Class flight to Europe from certain US cities.

Your Citi ThankYou Points could be the ideal way to get to Europe and beyond with this deal combo

Stack Deals and Use Citi ThankYou Points to Book Qantas Awards for Less

To see if you’re targeted for the credit card points transfer bonus to Qantas, search your email for the subject line “Up to 40% bonus Qantas Points if you transfer now.”  The transfer bonus ends April 14, 2019.

The number of bonus points you’ll earn depends on the number of points you transfer:

  • Get a 15% bonus for transferring up to 500,000 points
  • Get a 25% bonus for transferring 500,001 to 1,999,999 points
  • Get a 40% bonus for transferring 2,000,000 points

Here’s the link for the transfer bonus offer.

Those are big transfer thresholds, so it’s safe to assume most people will be looking at getting the 15% bonus.

Citi ThankYou points transfer to Qantas at a 1:1 ratio, Barclays Arrival Premier points (no longer available to new applicants) transfer to Qantas at a 1.4:1 ratio and Capital One miles transfer to Qantas at a 2:1.5 ratio.  But like I mentioned earlier, the extra exciting piece of this news is that you’ll get a 25% transfer bonus when you transfer Citi ThankYou points to Qantas points through April 13, 2019.  And stacking these deals can save you lots of points!

Qantas has a distance-based award chart, meaning the number of points you’ll pay depends on the distance flown.  So it can be good for short-haul flights.  But pay attention to their award charts because they have a couple of different charts for their partners.  Also, they do pass on fuel surcharges for award flights.

But there are some potential sweet spots with this deal, if you can find available award seats.

For example, flights less than 3,600 miles each segment on Qantas’ partner American Airlines cost (round-trip) 45,000 points in coach and 100,000 points in Business Class.  That means that by stacking both deals, you could get a round-trip coach non-stop flight between cities like New York (JFK) and London or Boston and Paris for just 32,000 Citi ThankYou Points.  For reference, American Airlines charges 60,000 American Airlines miles for a round-trip coach ticket between these city pairs.

If you’re looking to fly Business Class on an American Airlines flight of less than 3,600 miles flown each segment, you’d only need 70,000 Citi ThankYou points for a round-trip non-stop ticket.  That’s because you’ll get a 25% bonus with the Citi ThankYou points to Qantas bonus (70,000 + 25% bonus = 87,500 points) and then get an extra 15% bonus with the credit card points to Qantas bonus (87,500 + 15% bonus = 100,625).  That’s a great deal!

Just note, it can take up to 2 weeks for bonus points to post to your Qantas account, so this deal isn’t going to work for any last minute trips you might be looking to take.

Do you know anything about the problem with transferring Citibank Thank You Points to Etihad? I have been trying to do so for over a month and keep getting an error. Citibank keeps saying there is a system problem but never seems to fix.
