Well, that was fast! The Chase Ritz-Carlton card stopped accepting new applications late yesterday evening.
This comes right after the announcement that Marriott – Starwood merger would be official on August 18, 2018. And that the Marriott, Starwood, and Ritz-Carlton loyalty programs would become one on that date.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you’d been considering the Ritz-Carlton card and never got around to applying, you’ve lost your chance.
It’s a bummer we didn’t get any warning about this. But as with most things in the miles & points world, nothing lasts forever! And it’s important to take advantage of a good deal when you see it.
Current Ritz-Carlton cardholders will be able to keep their card. And Chase has promised “new and enhanced” benefits for the card starting on August 26, 2018.
According to The Points Guy, these new perks include things like a free night award after each cardmember anniversary (for free nights costing up to 50,000 Marriott points), better earning rates, and automatic Gold status in the new Marriott program.
We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about the future of the existing Ritz-Carlton, Marriott, and Starwood credit cards!
