I was visiting Emily’s dad over the weekend so I couldn’t attend the launch party, but like Mommy Points I am considering attending the North American portion of the event in Dallas (Hyatt Reception), Seattle (Boeing Tour!), and Los Angeles (American Airline Event).
Here’s the schedule from the official website.
Besides meeting other folks obsessed with miles and points, I’m also interested in visiting the Boeing facility and seeing how they make those big planes!
And Gary knows of a great dumpling restaurant by the official hotel. So that takes care of two of my favorite things – planes and good food!
But this is not cheap at $799 for a coach seat! Plus I’ll have to pay for 3 to 4 nights in a hotel.
Why do the good things cost so much?
You can earn up to 55,000 bonus AAdvantage miles for up to 10 round trips taken before the event and earn up to 200,000 Hyatt bonus points for staying 90+ nights (basically you’ll have to move in to a Hyatt until the DO!)
It isn’t worth taking cheap flights or staying in cheap Hyatt hotels solely for these bonuses, but they are a nice gesture which hasn’t been part of previous Mega DOs.
The StarMegaDO 3 was terrific, and I’m most likely going to attend the oneworld Mega DO as well. I do have a soft spot for American Airlines especially since I’m going to cross the 1 million mile mark with them soon!
Will I see you there?
