1. Star MegaDO 5 Tickets On Sale
When tickets initially went on sale in May, there was a glitch, so tickets will go on sale again at noon Central time on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. There are cheaper tickets this time because the chartered plane has changed.
Like all Mega DOs (as in a big party or get together) there will be lots of socializing, in addition to the Rimowa factory tour, meeting with Air Canada executives, and visiting the Air Force Base in Tuscon.
The Mega DO is from October 22, 2013 to October 25, 2013 and you can find out more information on this MilePoint thread. Million Mile Secrets is helping sponsor the event, but I won’t be able to attend, though I did attend StarMegaDo 3.
Seats on the MegaDO are a little expensive and do not include the (discounted) hotel rates in Toronto and San Francisco. You do earn miles with either United or Air Canada!
- Coach – $999 [Earn 5,000 Miles]
- Economy Plus – $1,299 [Earn 7,500 Miles]
- Tommy Class (Blocked Middle Seat) – $1,799 [Earn 7,500 Miles]
- Tommy Class Emergency Exit – $1,999 [Earn 7,500 Miles]
- First Class (SOLD OUT) – $2,799 [Earn 15,000 Miles]
In addition, everyone that participates will receive Marriott Platinum status through February 2015!
You can find lots more information on the official MegaDo website.
2. [Targeted] 100% Bonus for Buying US Airways
This bonus seems to be targeted to those who have purchased miles in the past, so your miles may vary.
With the bonus, you pay $38 for 2,000 miles, including a 7.5% excise tax. So by purchasing miles through this bonus, you are paying ~1.88 cents each ($38 /2,000 miles).
The maximum number of miles that you can earn is 100,000 miles (50,000 miles purchased, with a 50,000 mile bonus). If you gift miles, the bonus miles will be go to the person who receives the miles.
Also, the Terms & Conditions state that your US Airways account must have been open for at least 12 days before purchasing or gifting miles.
A great use of US Airways Dividend miles is to use 90,000 miles to fly in Business Class from the US to Asia, with a stopover in Europe or even the Middle East.
You would pay $1,700 if you bought 90,000 miles for a Business Class award to North Asia with a stopover in Europe or the Middle East (subject to award availability & taxes and fees, of course).
This isn’t such a great deal for domestic coach travel because you’d pay ~$470 for 25,000 miles which is usually more than what a domestic round-trip ticket costs.
Just be sure to do the math to see if this makes sense for you!
3. [Targeted] 5,000 Points for Hyatt Credit Card Holders
Just like they did last quarter, Hyatt is offering a targeted bonus of 5,000 points for spending $3,000 on the card through September 30, 2013.
A reader informed me that they received this offer with an enrollment code via email. this offer is targeted to specific cardholders, but it wouldn’t hurt to keep your eyes open for it in the mail!
Registration (via this link or by calling 877-532-3803) is required by August 31, 2013.
That said, the $3,000 spending requirement could be used toward the sign-up bonus on a new card, so make sure to do what makes sense for you.
4. 1,500 AirBerlin Miles and Status Matching
Wandering Aramean reports that Air Berlin is offering a welcome bonus of 1,500 miless for signing up for their frequent flyer program by July 31, 2013.
The bonus is awarded in two phases:
- 1,000 miles after you register for an AirBerlin frequent flier account
- Up to 500 additional miles for signing up to receive offers from AirBerlin via email
View from the Wing says that it is fairly easy to match your existing airline elite status with Air Berlin.
5. 2 Tickets to Fiji
Pause The Moment is giving away 2 tickets to Fiji. You have to enter by July 19, 2013.
