1. Hyatt Adds Two New French Hotels

Dan’s Deals reports that Hyatt has added two new French hotels which can be booked using points, the Hotel du Louvre, in Paris, and the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez overlooking the Mediterranean.

In addition, the Concorde Lafayette, Paris and Palais de la Mediterranee, Nice will soon be added to this list.

Using Hyatt Gold Passport points to stay in Paris is a great deal. For example, if you were to pay for a stay at either of these during the peak travel period in June, the cost would be astronomical:

For a randomly selected date in June, the Hotel du Louvre, rates start at a ridiculous 650 Euros (~$845).

Though it has not yet been added to the list of Hyatt’s listing of award properties by category, the Hotel du Louvre is a Category 5 property, meaning that an award stay costs 18,000 Hyatt points per night.

Thus when compared to the best available cash rate of $845, if you were to book an award stay, you would get a return of ~4.7 cents per point! Given how expensive Paris hotels can typically be, this is a terrific deal.

As for the the Grand Hyatt Cannes, the rate for the same date was 306 Euros (~$398):

In contrast, an award night for this Category 6 hotel runs at 22,000 Hyatt points or about 1.8 cents per point.

2.   300 Point Priority Club Quiz

Just Another Points Traveler writes that Priority Club is offering 300 points for completing a quiz on the Priority Club Rewards program.

The Terms & Conditions state that the offer is valid only for the original recipient only, so I can’t guarantee this will work for everyone.  However, if it does work the points will post within 48 hours.  And as a footnote, keep in mind that Priority Club points never expire!

Here are the five questions (and answers!)

1) What benefits can you enjoy from your first day as a Priority Club Rewards member? Answer: All of the above and more

3.   Chase Sapphire Preferred Card Offering Triple Points at Restaurants the First Friday of Each Month

Via Online Travel Review, beginning May 3,2013 and up to the end of the year,  Chase will offer 3 Ultimate Rewards Points per dollar spent on dining at restaurants on the first Friday of every month.  You don’t have to register beforehand.

Just use your Chase Sapphire Preferred Card to get the 3X Ultimate Rewards points.  I personally think this is a weak promotion, because 1 extra point on dining – on a Friday – isn’t going to really add up.

Emily:  Not to mention the headache of keeping all the promos straight! Daraius: And don’t forget that you earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points for dining – on any day – up to the end of June with the Chase Freedom card. 3x Chase Points at Restaurants

Keep in mind that the charge must occur before midnight (of your time zone) to be eligible for the 3X points.

4.   35% Bonus for Transferring American Express Membership Rewards Points to British Airways

Via The Points Guy, through June 7, 2013, British Airways is offering a 35% bonus on transfers of American Express Membership Rewards points.

Remember that you can transfer Membership Rewards points to others as well, so you can help a friend or family member out by topping off their account.

British Airways partner airlines include American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, and Qantas.

Due to potentially high fuel surcharges and a distance-based award chart, the best use of British Airways Avios points is to use Avios for short distance flights, flights between the US and South America or Canada, and flights to Europe on Aer Lingus or Air Berlin  which don’t charge fuel surcharges.

5.  Overwater Bungalows for Less

Overwater bungalows are great escapes and part of the reason folks travel to  exotic places like Tahiti, the Maldives, or Bora Bora.

But they do run on the pricy side.  In the case of my stays at the Hilton Moorea and InterContinental Thalasso, Emily and I ended up paying an extra $175 to $200 on top of the points we used for an award, to get a guaranteed upgrade to an overwater bungalow.

But as Miles to the Wild details, it is possible to experience Big Travel with Small Money in a bungalow at the HamuEco Lodge on Waigeo Island in Indonesia.  The fee for this resort is $70 per night, including meals!

In addition, if you contact them via Facebook, for a fee of $20, you can arrange for a taxi ride to the resort.

In addition, Miles to the Wild also includes a link to Price of Travel’s list that includes 16 of the Cheapest Overwater Bungalow resorts in the world.
