I’ve written about how you can earn statement credits for hotel stays and shopping with Visa SavingsEdge. But did you know there’s also a free mobile app?
I downloaded the new Visa SavingsEdge app on my phone to see how it works and if it could help you save money!
What’s Visa SavingsEdge?
With Visa SavingsEdge you earn cash back at certain hotels, restaurants, and auto stores, with a registered Visa business card such as:
- Chase Ink Business Cash Credit Card
- Chase Ink Plus
- US Bank Club Carlson Business
Once you register your Visa business card for FREE you will automatically get the statement credit when you use your card at a participating location. You can check out the full list of discounts you can get with Visa SavingsEdge. But let’s take a look at how you can save on travel with this program!
You can save 5% when you book directly with a qualifying US hotel including:
- Baymont Inn & Suites
- Days Inn
- Dream hotels
- Howard Johnson
- Knights Inn
- La Quinta (maximum $1,000 in savings)
- Night Hotels
- Super 8
You’ll save another 2% when you use your Chase Ink Bold (no longer available) or Chase Ink Plus card! That’s because Chase Ink Bold and Chase Ink Plus earn 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on hotel stays booked directly with the hotel.
2. Gas Stations
In the mood for a road trip? You can save 1% at Chevron and Texaco gas stations in the continental US. You’ll also get 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards (or 2% cash back) points on gas with the Chase Ink Bold (no longer available), Chase Ink Plus, and Chase Ink Cash cards.
3. Car Rentals
With Visa SavingsEdge you’ll also save 4% on the base rate when you spend $100 or more on a US car rental (reserved 24 hours in advance) from:
- Alamo – call 800-462-5266 or book online to get the discount
- National – call 800-227-7368 or book online to get the discount
But you’re likely to save more money on car rentals with the tips in my car rental series.
The New Visa SavingsEdge App
When you open the app you will see 1 featured deal, which appears to be the closest place to save.
To get started you can pull up a list of all the places in your area where you can save with Visa SavingsEdge by clicking the “What’s Near Me” button or entering your zip code.
Or if you’re looking for a specific item, use the keyword search to find a Visa SavingsEdge discount.
There is a map feature to get an idea of the location.
So it’s easier to use the GPS on your phone.
Is This a Useful Tool?
Personally, I don’t plan on keeping the app on my phone. That’s because I register my cards with Visa SavingsEdge in case I happen to make a purchase that will earn a discount, but I don’t search for places to save in my area.
Plus, I find it easier to just use the list of participating retailers on their website. Then use the GPS on my phone to find a nearby location.
That said, the app is free, so it doesn’t hurt to try it out and see if it might be useful for you!
I register my Visa business cards with this program because it’s free and it’s a nice surprise to get additional savings if I happen to make a purchase at Visa SavingsEdge retailer. So I don’t plan on using the app to find places to shop, eat, or stay.
That said, for folks on a road trip and looking for a budget hotel, the app could remind you to use your enrolled Visa business card to save 5% at places like Days Inn and Ramada.
What do you think of the new Visa SavingsEdge app?
