Heading to Hawaii before the end of the year? Check out the latest Starwood promotion!
Via Points, Miles & Martinis, you can save on Starwood hotels in Hawaii through December 20, 2017. You’ll get a discount on room rates, select restaurants, and even extra Starwood points!
But I did some digging, and the deal isn’t quite as good as they suggest!
Here’s what you need to know about this deal.
Happy Canada 150, Hawaii!
Link: Starwood Hawaii Promotion
Starwood is celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday by giving folks an incentive to vacation far, far away from Canada. 😉
For Starwood stays booked and completed by December 20, 2017, you’ll get up to 35% off rooms and dining at certain restaurants on the Big Island, Kauai, Maui, and Oahu! Here’s what you need to know:
- Discounts and offers vary by hotel
- Discount is taken off of the lowest prepaid rate
- You must be a member of Starwood Preferred Guest
- Book online or call 866-716-8141 and use rate plan SPG35HI
- Blackout dates and other restrictions may apply.
- NOT valid for groups
- You can NOT combine this promotion with other offers or promotions
Is This a Good Deal?
As with most Starwood promotions, it’s very difficult to actually find the value Starwood advertises. I did NOT find any hotels that were 35% off the lowest prepaid rate. And some hotels were even HIGHER.
For example, the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach, costs $265 before taxes without the promotional rate.
But the same hotel costs $286 before taxes with the promotional rate. That’s $21 more!
That said, the promotional rate has free cancellation, breakfast for 2, and earns double Starwood points. So perhaps adding all those things together would make the promotional rate a better deal than the lowest prepaid rate. But that’s hardly the advertised deal!
I did find a discount at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in December. Rooms cost $304 per night, but the promotion code brought the price down to $267. And you get a 35% discount at select restaurants.
Remember to use the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express or Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express when you’re spending at Starwood hotels. That’s because you’ll get an extra 2 Starwood points per $1, whether you’re paying for your room, or eating at an in-house restaurant!
Bottom Line
In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, Starwood is advertising 35% off hotel stays and select restaurants in Hawaii through December 20, 2017.
I didn’t find any hotels for 35% off with this promotion, and some cost even more than the regular prepaid rate. But it’s worth checking for your desired location and dates. You just might get lucky!
