There is a different offer available for the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®. Nick from Frequent Miler stumbled across it while making a reservation, and it could be a better deal for some folks.
With the alternate offer, you’ll end up with fewer miles. But it has a smaller minimum spending requirement, and earns a $200 American Airlines statement credit!
We don’t earn a commission on this card, but we’ll always share the best public offers with y’all. The information for this offer has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Here are the details of the offer.
Citi American Airlines Platinum Select Card ($200 Statement Credit)
With this Citi American Airlines Platinum Select card offer, you’ll earn 50,000 American Airlines miles after spending $2,500 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. And you can receive up to $200 in statement credits for eligible American Airlines purchases within the first 12 months.
The card comes with the same perks as the other offer:
- 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent at restaurants, gas stations, and on eligible American Airlines purchases
- 1 American Airlines mile per $1 spent on all other purchases
- $100 American Airlines flight discount after $20,000+ in purchases within a card member year and the card is renewed
- Free first checked bag for you and up to 4 companions on domestic American Airlines flights
- Preferred boarding on American Airlines flights
- 25% discount on American Airlines in-flight purchases with your card
- $99 annual fee is waived the first year
Is This a Good Deal?
The higher offer is for 60,000 American Airlines miles after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
The spending requirement you’ll need to meet for this new offer with the statement credit is $500 less. But personally, that’s not enough to affect my decision one way or the other. So it comes down to whether you value 10,000 American Airlines miles more than up to $200 in American Airlines statement credits.
One-way coach saver award seats around the lower 48 states and Canada that are less than 500 miles only cost 7,500 American Airlines miles. But these flights often cost less than $200.
Plus, when you pay cash, you won’t have to worry about finding a saver award when you want to travel. So if you plan on booking short-haul American Airlines flights in the US or Canada, then it might make sense to go for the $200 statement credit offer.
But a round-trip coach flight to Europe will set you back 60,000 American Airlines miles during peak travel dates. So depending on where you want to fly, the 50,000 mile offer might not be a good idea.
Or, if you’re trying to accumulate enough American Airlines miles for a Business or First Class seat, you’ll want the offer with more miles.
There is a different offer for the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select card. You’ll earn 10,000 fewer American Airlines miles than the current best offer. But you’ll earn up to $200 in American Airlines credits instead. And the minimum spending requirement is $500 less.
If you’re looking for cheaper short-haul flights, the $200 in statement credits offer could be a good deal. But I personally think most folks will be better off applying for the higher offer. Especially if you’re looking to fly to Europe with your miles.
