Mastercard has announced a couple new benefits that could potentially be a tremendous help to us frugal travelers!
The perks are now available for both World and World Elite Mastercard credit cards, like the Barclaycard Arrival® Plus World Elite Mastercard® or Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®. The services are called Hotel Stay Guarantee and Lowest Hotel Rate Guarantee. And they could save you a lot of money.
Here’s what you need to know!
1. Hotel Stay Guarantee
Hotel Stay Guarantee kicks in if you arrive at the hotel and don’t get what you paid for.
For example, if there is a water park out of order, or if you can’t stay in the room you booked, you can call a concierge who will contact the hotel for you. If they can’t resolve the problem, the concierge will help you book another hotel and cover the cost of the new room up to $1,000. Nice!
This benefit applies only to 3-star hotels and above.
2. Best Rate Guarantee
This one is pretty self explanatory. If you find your prepaid room at a lower price, you can file a claim and be refunded the difference. It’s kind of like a price rewind for hotel rooms. The official terms state you must:
- [F]ind the same hotel room type, in the same hotel, for the same dates, the same number of children and adults, at a lower price online, before taxes and fees, we’ll refund you the difference.
The biggest drawback to these perks is that in order to take advantage of them, you need to book your hotel stay through Mastercard Travel & Lifestyle Services. Because it is a 3rd-party booking site, you won’t earn hotel points or be able to take advantage of elite status benefits at the hotel.
