Last year, I wrote Cathay Pacific would be introducing a US credit card in early 2017. And now, Cathay Pacific’s Facebook page suggests the card will be launched tomorrow, February 13, 2017.
With the Cathay Pacific Visa Signature card, you’ll earn 25,000 Cathay Pacific miles after spending $2,500 on purchases in the first 90 days of opening your account. And the card will be issued by Synchrony Bank, which is good news for folks who already have lots of cards from other lenders.
Thanks to Million Mile Secrets reader @IadisGr8 for giving us a heads-up!
I’ll share what I know about the card and help you decide if you should consider it!

Cathay Pacific will launch their new credit card tomorrow, February 13, 2017. You’ll earn 25,000 Cathay Pacific miles after spending $2,500 on purchases in the first 90 days of opening your account. There’s no information yet on bonus categories, foreign transaction fees, or an annual fee, but I’ll update y’all when more details are available.
If you collect Cathay Pacific miles, and already have lots of cards from other banks, you might consider this card. It’s issued by Synchrony Bank, and most folks in our hobby don’t have many cards from them.
But I do NOT recommend this card for folks new to the miles and points hobby, because there are cards with far more valuable sign-up bonuses. Here are my posts on the best cards for beginners, and my favorite card for folks just starting out!
Keep in mind, this card will show up on your personal credit report, which will impact your chances of being approved for Chase cards. Chase won’t approve you for most cards if you’ve opened ~5 or more new cards (except certain business cards) in the past 24 months.
Is This a Good Deal?
Link: Cathay Pacific Award Charts
Cathay Pacific uses a distance-based award chart. This means the price of an award flight depends on the distance flown.
You can’t go very far with 25,000 Cathay Pacific miles – it’s not even enough for a one-way coach flight from the West Coast to Asia!
But if you collect transferable American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou, or Starwood points, you can transfer those points to Cathay Pacific and combine them with the sign-up bonus for Big Travel.
And through February 28, 2017, you’ll get a 30% bonus on certain hotel point transfers to Cathay Pacific, including Starwood points.
Be sure to read my posts on how to make the most of your Cathay Pacific miles and the secret ways to book Cathay Pacific award flights.
Bottom Line
Check back tomorrow, February 13, 2017, for more details on the new Cathay Pacific Visa Signature card!
You’ll earn 25,000 Cathay Pacific miles after spending $2,500 on purchases in the first 90 days of opening your account. Other details, like bonus categories, foreign transaction fees, and annual fee, aren’t yet available.
That’s not a lot of miles, but if you like Cathay Pacific, this might be a good deal for you. Plus, the card is issued by Synchrony Bank, so this could be a good option for folks who’ve already maxed out the number of cards they can get from other banks.
This is NOT a good card for beginners, because there are many other cards with better sign-up bonuses!
